Anticipation Level:
How excited (or not) I am to see this movie...
I have to admit, I am not really much of a fantasy movie "buff" so I wasn't really clamoring like everyone else to see this movie. I was just going to wait to see it on video.
Movie Review:
My thoughts on this movie...
This movie has got to be one of the best I have seen in a long time. I do have to admit though, that at first I didn't really care whether or not I actually saw the movie - but now I am so glad I did. I have been a fan of the incomparable Johnny Depp for well over 10 years, and even though I can't say that I have loved every movie he has played in, I will say that he has done an amazing job in every single one. Pirates is no exception. Captain Jack is definitely one of the best characters in the movie, he is absolutely hilarious and very well done. I don't think anyone BUT Johnny Depp could have pulled off a character like that. Of course, not to overshadow Geoffrey Rush, who did a fabulous job as the evil cursed Captain Barbossa, and Orlando Bloom who I think did a pretty good job holding his own against a seasoned pro like Mr. Depp - or Keira Knightly who was quite good as the movie's heroine. I could go on for hours about the amazing special effects in this film - they were extremely well done.Kudos to all involved, and I know I am not the only one looking forward to the 2nd installment!! Drink up me 'earties, YO HO!!
DVD Review:
Thoughts on the DVD release of this movie...
Seeing as how I only saw it once in the theater, I was definitely looking forward to the DVD, and I was not disappointed. The blooper reel, though painfully short, had my sides aching from laughing, and the deleted scenes were also quite good - and I have to love the reference to Benny and Joon in one of the scenes. (Benny and Joon fans - keep your ears open - it's worth it) I also thoroughly enjoyed seeing all the behind the scenes and special FX deals!! One of the best DVD extras in a long time
