September 27, 2002 — Kiera Knightly is the latest actress to join Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean. Filmforce has the story:
A source at Disney tells IGN FilmForce that Knightley has been cast as Elizabeth Swann, the main female lead in the upcoming theme-ride-inspired Pirates of the Caribbean. Knightley will join fellow thespians Johnny Depp ("Jack Sparrow") and Orlando Bloom ("Will Turner") in this high seas adventure. Opposing the comely, swashbuckling threesome is Geoffrey Rush, whose character we're told is now "Pirate Captain Barbossa," a bevy of bad-attitude buccaneers, and a deadly pirate curse.
Pirates of the Caribbean is set for a domestic release sometime next year.
