Ok, maybe im just stupid, but how would Jack know about what happened to Bootstrap Bill? Because in the movie Pintel is explain that the reason Bootstrap sent a piece of coin to Will was because the pirates deserved to be cursed for what they did to Jack. So everything that happened to Bootstrap Bill happened after they marrooned Jack on the island, so how would he really know?

I think it was Jack who said they deserved to be cursed, for what they did to Bootstrap . The pirates were cursed before they marrooned Jack . The pirates mutinied and marrooned Jack after they got rid of Bootsrap . Jack didn't like what they did to Bootstrap , so that's why they mutinied and marrooned him.


At least......that's how I think it happened.

Maybe Jack found out after he got off the island? I'm sure he had connections, so someone probably told him. That would explain why he said "so the curse is true" when the one cursed crew member grabs his throat while he's still in prison.

You're right, he did say that. Maybe word just got around to Jack. You never know. I'm not sure though.

And yeah, I'm not that far away. I've met a few people on this site from Washington, now.

I agree. I think Jack kept close tabs on the crew of the Pearl. All the guy wanted was his ship, so I think he'd find all this stuff out somehow. He knew eventually he could use all he's learned against Barbossa. Namely the fact that he needed Will's blood to lift the curse.

Has anyone watched the commentary by the writers? It's very good. It doesn't tell you how Jack knew about what happened to Bootstrap, but it's still very informative, and interesting to listen to.

Jack knew Bootstrap because he was the Capt. of the Black Pearl, after he was mutiny Bootstrap didnt like what they did to jack and the new capt Barbossa threw bootstrap over board with a cannon ball connected to him

He threw in with us after we relieved Jack Sparrow of his captaincy, but turned out, it never sat well with him  particularly after we found Cortes treasure, and its peculiar condition. He thought we deserved to be cursed, for leaving ol Jack to the fate we did. Thats why he sent off a piece of the treasure - to you, as it were: so it would never be recovered, and so cursed we_ remain.

I've been meaning to, it's the only commentary that I haven't listened to yet! Hopefully I'll get to it this weekend or something.

I think that the writers did a g-r-e-a-t job, has anybody heard if they are writing the sequel?

wouldn't Bootstrap Bill be still alive! He was part of the crew when the gold was stolen, so he should be cursed as well. Also Did anyone see the final scene at the end of the credits? In it we see 'Monkey Jack' take a piece of gold and returned the curse. Wonder if this will bring Barbossa back as well?!

To the other person who asked they are doing a sequel... I know in previous posts there has been a lot of debate bout Bootstrap being alive and all... I think he reconnected himself after being blown to pieces but thats my thought... I saw the end monkey thing too... That only makes the monkey 'undead' i guess, and poor ol barbossa is dead unless disney brings him back -.-'

i think that bootstrap might turn up in the sequel because, he couldnt die if he too was cursed. So, he probably unlatched himself from the cannon and walked on the ocean floor for years, or till he came to some land. And he might have been on land when the curse ended, making it totally possible that he could show up

are you kidding me!?!?! It's what the whole movie was about!!! *dies of a heart attack* ok... well... first barbossa commited mutiny against jack. they put jack on that desolate little island with the one shot blah blah. well bootstrap didnt like that cause he was friedns with ol jack. so bootstrap was on the pearl and took a gold medallion along with all the other crew members. but instead of selling his, he sent it to his son william turner. in order to life the curse you need to return all the medallions and pay back the blood. bootsrtaps blood ran in wills veins so they needed his blood to finally lift the curse. any more questions?

you mean why didnt bootstrap keep it for himself? after the crew of the pearl found out about what bootstrap had did, they tied his bootstraps to a cannon or something? well they shot him off into the ocean and supposedly killed him but no one is really sure if he is dead, the curse and all... i think he probably figured they would do something like that so he sent it to his only son, Will, to make it even harder for the crew to become alive again... so they have been going for 10 years looking for the last medallion piece. everyone who took a medallion has to spill some blood and return it so they would be normal, but since they thought bootstrap was dead they had to use his son's blood because part of his blood was in his son. is that what you were asking?

The question was how did Jack know about Bootstrap. Well, I was watching the movie again, and the scene in the tavern where Jack is telling Gibbs his plan to get the Pearl...He tells Gibbs that Will is "Bootstrap's child, his only child. Savy?"
Gibbs response was one of knowledge, "Is he now. " Gibbs knew of the curse and the importance of Will also. Any good seaman would keep his ears open to keep tabs on what could be useful.

The reason he cut himself was because he took a medallion out of the chest also, that's why he was cursed, therefor he had to repay the blood by cutting himself, then he throws it to Will and Will drops both medallions in the chest, savvy?

Okay, pretty much all of the answers to the questions in this thread are answered in the DVD... I FINALLY got around to watching the commentary with the writers tonight, and during the credits one of them explains EVERYTHING. From how Jack and Bootstrap knew each other to why they needed Will's/Bootstrap's blood.

I highly recommend watching it!
