Rachel Weisz talks about Gardener

SUBMITTED BY Fred Hill

August 24, 2005

Rachel Weisz talks with Coming soon.net about her upcoming role in The Constant Gardener.

If Rachel Weisz isn't the most beautiful and talented actress in the world, then she's certainly close. This may be part of why she is constantly working and playing a variety of roles in everything from war dramas (Enemy at the Gates) to romantic comedies (About a Boy) and even getting into genre films like the comic book based Constantine earlier this year. Later this year, she stars in The Fountain, only the third feature from innovative filmmaker Darren Aronofsky--who wisely asked the actress to marry him. But first, she stars in The Constant Gardener, a film based on John Le Carre's political thriller, putting her in the role of a political activist whose romantic involvement with a British politico puts her in mortal danger. It in turn is only the second film from innovative British filmmaker Fernando Meireilles (City of God).

Weisz talked with ComingSoon.net about the film and what she had to go through to play this tough role.

CS!: Your character is sort of dead for the whole movie. When you saw the movie, did you feel a little out of touch with all the other stuff that was going on or was it a little strange?

Rachel Weisz: I love the fact that's it's a retrospective love story, that it's told in flashback and there are a lot of assumptions that Ralph and the audience make about my character which are then revised as the film goes on. I think it's a beautiful narrative structure that's very original.
