OK, I had to go along with my wife, just to see.
Here's my honest appellation of what I saw:
This movie had a great idea, and then it all goes horribly wrong. It's the same sort of dull Hollywood in-jokes, with over-the-top characters, (not even interesting like the old series) and heavy-handed humor that makes me cringe.
Will Ferrell is playing yet another jerk of the character. I don't need to see those, I see them everyday in real life. Not funny.
Most of the supporting cast is either unfunny or unused.
I agreed with a local critic who wondered how in the world this director keeps getting major movies when so many of them are complete disasters, like this one.
I'd have to agree. My wife is a big fan of the old series, but her face was twisting strangely during the whole thing.
In short I give it 1 star, wait until DVD, and then only rent it if it's cheap.
Agree of disagree, this is one TV to movie translation that simply doesn't work.
