January 13, 2003 — Coming Soon reports:
The Hollywood Reporter says Larry Guterman has been tapped by Miramax Films to direct Artemis Fowl.
To be produced by Tribeca Films partners Jane Rosenthal and Robert De Niro, the "Harry Potter"-esque "Fowl" follows the adventures of a crafty 12-year-old boy immersed in a world of fairies, leprechauns and gnomes.
Miramax Books is the publisher of "Fowl," by Irish author Eoin Colfer, as well as that book's sequel, "Artemis Fowl: The Arctic Incident." Guterman's credits include Warner Bros. Pictures' Cats & Dogs. Last year, he struck a deal with New Line Cinema to direct the studio's follow-up to the 1994 Jim Carrey starrer The Mask.
