Probably already had this disscusion, but who would be your dream cast members for the movie.

For Holly I would cast Jennifer Garner, i think that would be good.
Butler I would want to see Michael Clarke Duncan. I don't think that's how they describe him in the book, but that's how I see him.
I wanna say Haley Joel Osment for Artemis he is a good actor, but maybe looks a bit too innocent to pull off Artemis?

What do you guys think?

I dunno wut that Jennifer and Michael look like, but I do know that guy u were talking about that u want to look like Artemis Fowl. He does look too innocent to play Artemis.
WAY too innocent and WAY too young if u ask me. I know i'm being a little blunt, but hey, that's just my opinion.
If you ask me, the guy who should play Artemis should be at least twelve, dark haired/eyed, and kinda good looking - that will just make the movie more interesting to me
Anyway, I hope the director has good luck finding a cast!

haley joel osment is almost 16 now if he isn't already and HE CAN'T ACT. his latest film was: the country bears. i think tyhey need an unknown for artemis. and as foir holly, i can parttially think jennifer is a good pick but she'll be busy with elektra and daredevil 2 PLUS Alias. my pick for butler is Michael Clarke dDuncan all the way!!!!

I agree with having Jennifer Garner as Holly, although, I pictured Holly a little younger, she'd still be really good. Also, I like Micheal Clarke as Butler. I don't however want Haley Joel Osmond as Artemis. He just can't be evil or mischievous. I'm not a big fan of his. I think they should go with an unknown for Artemis, because I don't know of any child actors that could do Artemis justice.

I do love Haley Joel. And I have to disagree and say he can act....but I DO agree that he is not right for this part. Besides I heard that the author is insisting on Irish cast members for the Fowls so it looks like it would have to be a relatively unknown actor

Yeah, it's too bad Artemis doesn't have an older brother, b/c Colin Farrell would be great! But unfortunately, there's no role he could play in this series. But I kinda like the idea of unknowns (for the Fowls, at least), b/c I don't really know of any "known" actors I would like to see in those roles (especially Artemis).

I know what you mean. When I heard 'Irish cast' I thought how perfect Colin Farrell would be for Artemis, except for the fact that he is about 20 years too old! But if he was younger, then he'd been soooooo perfect.

Yeah, who knows...maybe in future books, we might get to meet Artemis when he's all grown up, like in some sort of time-traveling plot or something. I dunno, I just wanna fit Colin in somehow.

Well just aslong as they get someone good to play Artemis I don't mind. I heard a Daniel Radcliffe aka Harry Potter rumour at one point but am 100% sure that is not sure. I men he is fine as Harry (well...not really) but Artemis...no way!

Ok, I'd still prefer them to go with an unknown, but if they wouldn't go with an unknown, here's my pick:

Jeremy Sumpter a.k.a. Peter Pan

Now, I realize the 2 big problems with this: 1.) he's blonde in that movie (although, I'm pretty sure that's not natural, so he could just as easily dye his hair black), and 2.) he's not Irish, but I wouldn't mind if Arty was played by a non-Irish kid doing an Irish accent (they'll be hard-pressed to find an actual Irish kid actor who would play Artemis well).

Now, here's why I think he'd be good: 1.) his face is actually A LOT like I pictured Artemis's face
2.) I've seen him with that mischievious(sp?) look in his eye. It looks kind of like this:

3.) Peter Pan is a very similar character to Artemis, if you've ever read the real Peter Pan book (he's mischievious and cocky), and Jeremy seems to play that very well.

4.) he's charismatic, so I know he could be a VERY loveable little criminal.

5.) I think he has a very believable air of intelligence around him, which I think is evident in this pic:

Hey, at least he's got the blue eyes! Oh look! His hair looks kinda dark in this one:

As I said before, I'd prefer an unknown, but if we can't have that, this is my #1 candidate.

I think Tom Felton who play Draco Malfoy in Harry Potter would make a good Artemis. I mean his hair is really dark but bleached for the Hp movies but I think he;d be a wicked Artemis.

I completely agree with you coolpeachdust. I would prefer an unknown but if they can't find one then I think they should go with the Peter Pan dude.

As for Holly, I always pictured her smaller and shorter (you know like elves) but also at mid-age you know?

Thanks. I agree with you about Holly, too. They will probably have to do something like they did in LotR with the hobbits and just use a bunch of camera tricks to make they fairies look smaller. I always pictured Holly in her late 20s or early 30s, b/c the other main fairies seem to talk to her like she's younger than them, ya know what I mean?

Yeah, I think if they do use the LotR method (the camera tricks), they should cast somebody with a petite build, so they would make a believeable small person. That would be my one problem with Jennifer Garner. She just looks tall, even if someone standing next to her is much taller than her. She just has that tall kind of build. For an example of someone who just looks even more petite than they are, see Kristin Kreuk, a.k.a. Lana Lang on Smallville. Granted, she doesn't have the same physical features as Holly, but she does have the petite build, so when they use the effects to make her appear smaller than Artemis, it's more believeable. I'm not saying she should play Holly. That was just an example.

If they do use the camera tricks like in LotR, then they're probably going to have to make Holly a lot smaller. I mean whoever they pick for Artemis is probably going to be around 5 foot 5. So they are going to have to make Holly like 4 or 3 foot something. Don't ya think?

I really don't mind whta techniques they use -
but I do agree wit an earlier poster.
That Peter Pan kid could play the part

Well, not necessarily. In LotR, those camera tricks I was referring to weren't just old-fashioned camera positioning and lens tricks. I'm talking about the composite shot method that they used quite a bit on those films (they also used some old-fashioned trickery as well, though). What I mean by composite shot is that they would shoot the scene with Artemis and then shoot it seperately with Holly. They would be using a blue-screen, and digitally composite the shots into one, and make Holly smaller. It worked really well for LotR, so I think it could work well with this movie, too. Of course, they could still do some of the old fashioned tricks, like when they do a semi-or full close-up of Holly when she's standing next to Artemis, and you can't see his face they could have someone much bigger standing in for Artemis. There's a million things they can do to make someone appear smaller. I would just want someone with a petite build so that it doesn't look all wierd when they are small, they shouldn't have a big, tall, or lanky build if they want them to be believeably small.

I think Jessica Alba would make a great Holly or Juliet..
But that peter pan guy is so not Artemis Fowl material..
They should get some irish guy with a sinister, devious, Artemis look, y'know?
And you know that guy who played the dwarf-dude in Specail unit 2? yeah.. he should play Mulch man, hands down..

Artemis- Unknown. (Haley is way too innocent and possibly too old now. I don't know about the guy from Peter Pan.)
Holly- Possibly the girl who plays Dawn in Buffy.
Root- Alan Rickman... Don't know why but I've always pictured him in that role.
Foaly- Sean Biggerstaff (Oliver Wood- Harry Potter) or Orlando Bloom.
Butler- Billy Zane's bodyguard in Titanic.
Mulch- Rik Mayall (although i do think he should be CGI a la Gollom)

hmmmmmmmmmmm

I'm not very Actor-savvy,so I can't name off actor's names for random characters....

But i haver comments!
I don't know ahve the people u meantioned above me....
um.....I dunno if Foaly is supposed to be attractractive...
I mean, Orli Bloom is just too much of a, well, heart-throb, and too manly to play an annoying, bantering, 'donkey-boy'
and sean biggerstaff, well, he seems too innocent....

I would never call Orli "too manly " for...anything. He's always been a pretty sort of cute. But I do agree that those guys are not Foaly material.

Orlando Bloom as Root..... NO WAY! In my mind, I pictured Root as a kind of mean looking guy, not some pretty boy like Bloom (no offense to all of you girls).

As I said before, I think Jennifer Gardner would make a pretty good Holly. Along with mirror and camera tricks, she would look just like Holly to me.

As for Artemis I still like the Peter Pan guy, ONLY if they can't find a good unknown.

Michael Clark Duncan sounds like a pretty good Butler to me, although I didn't picture him that way. But MCD is a big dude and he could pull off Butler.

I think MCD could be a good butler, but I always picture Vinnie Jones as Butler. He's always playing the intimidating bodyguard type. Plus, he can be funny (like in Snatch or Gone in 60 Seconds). You guys probably don't know who he is, but you may recognize him:

I can also definitely see Jennifer Garner as Holly.
