Ryan Reynolds has been cast as the Green Lantern in a new comic book adaptation, according to Hollywood industry magazine, Variety.

Reynolds, 32, recently played the character Deadpool opposite Hugh Jackman in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

If the new deal goes ahead, it would make Reynolds the only actor to have played heroes for comic rivals Marvel and DC.

Reynolds married actress Scarlett Johansson in 2008.

He is currently starring opposite Sandra Bullock in The Proposal, which topped the US box office.

Bradley Cooper, who stars in The Hangover, and music star Justin Timberlake also did a screen test for the role of the superhero who is armed with a magical ring.

The film is being directed by Martin Campbell, who was at the helm of 2006's Casino Royale.

A spinoff movie for Reynold's Deadpool character is also in development.

Terrible choice.

I used to love Reynolds, Hell, he plays me in Waiting, but after what he did to Deadpool, I have ZERO tolerance for him and his BS.

Unless he can cut back on the sarcasm and play a serious leading man, I have zero faith in this movie.

But that goes without saying, it's being made by the WB.

The only thing it's got going for itself at this point is Martin Campbell.

I guess he'll do....I really enjoy Ryan Reynolds, he was the only watchable part of Wolverine for me.

Really really really wish they had gone with Bradley Cooper the second I heard his name in the running I thought PERFECT

I am a Reynolds fan, but don't like him in this role. Maybe when a trailer comes probably in late 2010 my mind could change, but there are better actors more suited to the role.

I'm not sure what to think of him in the role. Hopefully a trailer & some pics will show if he is right for the role or not. I would've prefer him as Guy Gardner than Hal.

I like Ryan Reynolds, but there is such a thing as overkill and I don't like the idea of associating 1 person with so many "superhero" characters. To really break his character type, he will need to be more dramatic in this one and way less sarcastic/funny.

I'll throw this one in the wait and see pile for now

I would totally be fine with Reynolds as Guy Gardner or even Kyle Raynor, but Hal?

When I heard Cooper was in the running for the role, I too though it would be a perfect fit. I really don't know what to think right now.

Boo. No comment. This, uh, just doesn't make enough sense. Why would WB do such a thing? This is like turning Deadpool into a speachless Baraka or turning Galactus into a storm cloud or casting Americans in a dragonball movie. Wait. What? Oh, those, those things have happened before? Oh, I guess this dumbass idea isn't too unexpected then . . .

He'll do fine indeed. We have to remember that this is Warner Brothers, not Fox. They have a fairly good track record when it comes to quality films.

Is there anyway that this information could have been fabricated in anyway? just asking.

They screwed up another great DC Hero, great job WB why on earth do we need Rynolds playing Deadpool and Hal Jordon? I've seen better pics online from fans than they can come up with so can we fire these folks for making this stupid choice?

Reynolds is okay. He's a decent actor, but the man just looks too young. When I think Hal Jordan, I think of someone rugged looking.

I remember an issue of Wizard a long time ago that did a casting call for justice league I think and they said Bruce Cambell for Hal Jordan which was a great idea at the time sine it was not too long after Army of Darkness came out. They used the picture of him from the movie with the grey streaks in his hair which was perfect. Of course now he's a bit old for the part and a bit out of shape.

X-men? What?

Reynolds played a pale Hanible King in Blade 3, which is a shame because King was such a compelling character.

Reynolds also played a pale Deadpool in Wolverine, which is also a shame because Deadpool was such a compelling character.

Reynolds is now set to play Hal Jordon in Green Lanter, which is another big shame because Hal Jordon was such a compelling character.

I love Reynolds, everr film that hasn't been a action film has been awesome (Van Wilder, Just Friends, the Proposal). But he's got absolutly nothing going for him on this one. I may be jumping the gun a little quick you think?

I just can't take this guy seriously as an action star. He looks awkward in every action sequence I've ever seen him in. I'm left wondering after every one of his performances whether or not he has an inner ear infection. Maybe that's the reason behind his oaf like coordination. Just look at his face while he's acting. His expressions alone clearly tell it all. The flinching in the eyes. The puckering of his lips and clinching of his teeth. His face doesn't lie. He is clearly uncomfortable. He may work out, but an athletic actor he is not. He's clearly uncoordinated. The best actors are the best liars and I just don't buy into this guys BS. He is just not action star material too me. But who knows, maybe he'll surprise me this time out. He can only get better at it over time.

Johnansen likes him. Must be something other than the persona you see on the screen.
