The Hollywood Reporter says that Bradley Cooper, Ryan Reynolds and Justin Timberlake are the three frontrunners for Warner Bros. Pictures' Green Lantern.

Along with director Martin Campbell and producers Donald De Line and Greg Berlanti, Warner Bros. has spent the past five months searching for the actor to play Hal Jordan, the hot-shot Air Force pilot who is chosen by a dying alien to be his successor in an intergalactic police force known as the Green Lanterns.

Other actors in the early mix included Michael Fassbender, Henry Cavill and Jared Leto.

The trade adds that De Line, Campbell and the studio each had a different favorite among the three finalists, making it difficult to come to a consensus.

The studio is targeting a June 17, 2011 release.

All Warner Bros. Execs should be shot.

JT? Really?

Leto? Really?

Reynolds? Really?

The only one they have a finger on that's remotely of interest is Bradley Cooper, yet the man of the hour isn't even being considered...Nathan Fillion???

When this studio starts listening to the fan base is when they will find success.

Look at Batman.

This is distressing news for sure. I have high hopes for this movie, but they need to find a good Hal Jordan!!

I'm not concern about the news, since I'm sure it kinda fake. There is no way Timberlake will be GL & Reynold already played 2 superheroes. I have no problem with Leto, Cooper, or Cavill playing the role if it happend.

I doubt that anyone at Warners would seriously consider Justin Timberlake to hold up a franchise like Green Lantern (I just don't want to see pop music in the credits alright?)

I also doubt that Ryan Reynolds would be even remotly interested in taking up the role seeing as he is already preoccupied doing films that he has been wanting to do for some time.

I'd be perfectly fine with Cooper, he's good actor and could probably hold up the franchise.

I think Cooper could do fine. I also like Ryan Goslin in the role, but that isn't happening.

Ryan Reynolds Lands Green Lantern!
Source:The Hollywood Reporter, Variety July 10, 2009

Warner Bros. Pictures has hired X-Men Origins: Wolverine and The Proposal star Ryan Reynolds to play the title role in the anticipated Green Lantern, scheduled for a June 17, 2011 release.

Based on the DC Comics hero, the action-adventure will be directed by Martin Campbell (Casino Royale, GoldenEye) and produced by Donald De Line and Greg Berlanti. Berlanti wrote the script with Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green.

The Hollywood trades say that Reynolds and his camp entered negotiations for the part Friday, after the studio held two rounds of screen tests, along with actors Bradley Cooper and Jared Leto. Justin Timberlake also did a screen test. The studio had holding options on the actors, but, except for Reynolds, those expired Monday. Reynolds' option would have expired end of day Friday.

Production is expected to begin in January.

The "Green Lantern" was created in 1940 by writer Bill Finger and artist Martin Nodell. Introduced in 1959, Hal Jordan is a second-generation test pilot, an ordinary man who was given the power ring and battery (lantern) by a dying alien named Abin Sur. When Abin Sur's spaceship crashed on Earth, the alien used his ring to seek out an individual to take his place as Green Lantern: someone who was "utterly honest and born without fear."

Reynolds recently starred in Fox's "Wolverine," in which he played Wade Wilson/Deadpool. The character is now being developed for a spin-off to which Reynolds is attached. He also played Hannibal King in Blade: Trinity.

The actor will next star in Buried, a dark indie drama that will begin filming shortly in Barcelona with Spanish director Rodrigo Cortes. Reynolds will play a civilian contractor who is kidnapped in Iraq and awakes in a coffin, struggling against time to coordinate a rescue even though he doesn't know where he's buried in the desert.
