Green Lantern Confirmed to Shoot in Sydney
Source:Mt Druitt Standard
April 16, 2009

The Mt Druitt Standard reports that New South Wales premier Nathan Rees has confirmed that Warner Bros. Pictures will shoot Green Lantern at Fox Studios Australia in Sydney later this year (previous reports said in September). GoldenEye, The Legend of Zorro and Casino Royale helmer Martin Campbell will direct. Here's a clip:

Premier Nathan Rees said filming would take place at Fox Studios with a substantial investment in digital effects work creating hundreds of jobs.

"The production is expected to employ 500 people at any given time, including 100 performers, 200 crew and thousands of extras," he said.

And here4s another articale.

Green Lanterns light shines on Sydney.

FILMING of a big-budget movie based on the comic book superhero Green Lantern will begin at Sydneys Fox Studios later this year.

The Hollywood adaptation will be produced by DC Comics and Warner Bros with Donald Deline, producer of the Italian Job, and director Martin Campbell who worked on Casino Royale.

Premier Nathan Rees said filming would take place at Fox Studios with a substantial investment in digital effects work creating hundreds of jobs.

The production is expected to employ 500 people at any given time, including 100 performers, 200 crew and thousands of extras, he said.

Securing this movie will ensure skilled film crews stay in NSW.

Films such as this invest heavily in the local economy and (have) flow-on effects for local services such as transport, construction and the hotel industry.

He said bringing Green Lantern to Sydney was a major coup and the State Government had worked closely with Warner Bros to make it happen.

It follows the high-profile international release of X-Men Origins: Wolverine starring Hugh Jackman, which was filmed in Sydney last year, animated blockbuster Happy Feet 2 and Guardians of GaHoole which is currently in production.

(Sydneys iconic Opera House was recently host to the official world premiere of the new Star Trek movie.)

The decision to film Green Lantern here will further strengthen the states leadership in the film production industry both domestically and internationally, Mr Rees said.

We have identified the creative industries as an important driver of economic activity and innovation and will continue to do whatever we can to attract more productions like this to Sydney and NSW.

Pre-production is expected to begin in July with filming starting in November.
