Honestly it is pretty good for a weekday release. Especially considering there was bad weather across the counry, It's finals for alot of high school and college students, and the fact that it hardly fell Thrusday (on 35%) compared to all three LOTR films falling 50%. I think it has paved the way for a successful weekend and run. Here are my three days grosses,

14-16 million Friday

20-24 million Saturday

16-18 million Sunday.

Which means Kong would have made 50 million in it's first weekend (5 million more then FOTR) and 66 million in five days (9 million less then FOTR) if it makes the lowest possible grosses I had on there.

If it makes the most I had on there it will make 58 million in it's first weekend (13 million then FOTR and 4 million less then TTT) and 74 million for five days (1 million less then FOTR)

That is pretty damn good. Now you factor iun next week (let's just say it makes six around six million each day for a total of 24 million in the week) for 98 million. Then since Christmas falls on a Sunday that will only boost it's weekend gross so,

It could make in it's second weekend,

12-14 million Friday

18-22 million Saturday

14-16 million Sunday.

for 44 million lowest possible gross and 52 for highest possible gross.

So think about it by it's second weekend it will be over 100 million likely. and it still has a week and a half of winter break left and the New years week lead up. So in three weeks it could possibly have 200+ million. So really I think Kong is in great shape. if it continues the good work of only declining slightly from the previous weekend (which it could do look at Titanic that movie was the best movie for that year and hardly declined from weekend to weekend. So this movie could be like Titanic. My guess is Kong will easily get to 300 million. It may beat TTT. If it gets really lucky it could rival ROTK maybe even Spider-Man. It will have to have alot of hold over power after the holidays to do so though.

Titanic made ;less then that in its first two days. It made less in three days then Kong did as well. Yet it went on to gross over 600 million dollars.

Bad news!

New Zealand certainly has a lot to account for, as the top two movies for the last week were shot in the country by natives of the land. Last weekend, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, directed by Andrew Adamson, dropped over 50% with the opening of Universal Pictures' remake of King Kong, directed by New Zealand's better known export Peter Jackson. In the last few days, "Narnia" had been picking up steam, grossing more than "Kong" both on Wednesday and Thursday. Yesterday, Disney's big screen version of C.S. Lewis' classic added 173 more theaters, putting it in over 300 more than "Kong," and it topped the charts Friday with roughly $8.22 million, a mere $60,000 ahead of King Kong. Of course, it's far too early to determine how Christmas Eve and Christmas Day may affect either movie, but it certainly looks like King Kong will be dropping more from last week than "Narnia" does, and it will be a horserace for the top spot over Christmas weekend.

He does not like Kong so of course he thinks that is good news. Well Kong proved the victor in the match by 1 million. It tumbled 57% for the three day weekend and 37% for the four day weekend (the one that is ultimately counted ebcause of Christmas eve. and because it is a holiday weekend) so I think it did pretty damn good. Better then Narnia in it's second week.

Dropping to third this week, Universal Pictures' remake of King Kong, directed by Peter Jackson, earned $12.5 million in its fourth weekend, widening the gap with Narnia after losing first place to it last week. The $208 million film has yet to earn back its production budget in North American theatres, although its current gross of $192 million points to it getting there by the end of next week's extended holiday weekend.

Went over 200 million this week. It will break even by Saturday at least. It has made 500 million worldwide so far. It will probably end up with around 600 million worldwide. Which is not to shabby if you take into consideration the poor B.O. run it had domestically. It has been doing great internationally though. The oscars are bound to bring it's B.O. up a little. So I think it is safe to say the movie may make around 230 million by the end of it's run.

Kong will do about $220 million in the US
& about $580 million in total worldwide ,
Which by most standards is excellent but
the damm media & the industry over hyped kong & expected it to do upwards
of a billion so some dorks think that it gross is a disapointment ??
Anyway kong will break even & with dvd
ect probably make a profit .
Kong is going to be number 5 of 2005 both domestically & worldwide , might even get to number 4 worldwide . I think tha't bloody good & pritty much bang on to my thinking of what sort of gross it would make bofore the media started talking crap .

Before the hype it very well could have broke some records. However when a film is hyped to the extent Kong was it turns people off. Not even LOTR had that much hype. It was close though. I think they should have waited to hype it up until after the release let the reviews do their job and then let word of mouth get around like with FOTR. Still it made money back worldwide and had a good run. Nothing to be ashamed of here.
