| How excited (or not) I am to see this movie... |
|
I had very high hopes for this movie. I've been watching it develop since it was announced and it's always looked like it was pretty darn awesome. Well, I must say, I was a bit dissapointed with the final result.
The main problem is that there is too much action. Action is good, don't get me wrong, but when the scenes of dialog seem to actually slow down the movie, it's gone too far.
The special effects look spectacular, but it's a bit much. It's rare to find a non CGI character in a shot, which made me feel like I was watching Star Wars: Episode 1 again.
I liked the "re-imagined" look to the three classic charactors. Frankenstein's Monster looked wonderful, as did the Wolf Man. The tranformation of the Wolf Man was also very interesting twist to the story. It was an interesting attempt to make all three of these classic monsters interconnected, but it seems to be a bit of a half hearted attempt.
I also wished that Kate Beckinsale had a different wardrobe. She looked like a pirate the entire time. Her Underworld performance preceeds her as well, as I kept expecting her to be a vampire as well.
Speaking of vampires, I had a real problem with the brides. They got annoying REAL fast. They were WAY too mellodramatic. Intentional or not, it got annoying.
Dracula saved the movie, excellently played by Richard Roxburgh. He reminded me of the Christopher Lee adaptations of Dracula during the Hammer Film days (Horror of Dracula).
Is it worthy of a sequal? I don't think so. Even still, I'd watch it, just to see Van Helsing kick classic monster butt. |
