For most of the film Selene's eyes are brown, but sometime her eyes are blue.
Does anyone know why?

They probably decided red had been done to death. It goes all the way back to Christopher Lee and was seen last in Dracula 2000. And I think it was a good call, I might add. She (and the rest of the vampires) look great.
They could have gone with yellow wolf eyes for the Lycans too but that was done in Jack Nicholson's Wolf and probaby a dozen other werewolf movies.

I find that the pale blue eyes are very coherant to the movie because when Lycans and Vamps get pissed and change their eyes turn pale blue which is almost like the moon in the night time sky, which is basically all they see(well from what the movie shows, since the lycans can go out in the day). Otherwise they are very sexy eyes, I've purchased red contacts because of Blade and now I just got pale blue cuz of Underworld. Kate Beckinsale is one of few women who is hotter without makeup than with it on!!! You see this in the extra features on the dvd!!! What ever she does wear she is the sexiest woman in history!!!

I wonder if the first immortal had blue eyes? Probably.

selenes eyes turn blue just because its a cool effect underlining her power and that she is a vampire .

the same goes for other vampire movies when the biting teeth of a vampire grow before the actual contact with a human.

just a cool effect

and surely had the first immortal blue eyes cuz i dont think you can get that by evolution, even not if youre a vampire.
but remember the eders, viktor had his eyes turn blue too and markus' eyes were blue too, before tunring black cuz he becomes a hybrid
