Recent "Mummy" Image Likely Promoting Ride, Not Film

SUBMITTED BY Typhon24

August 5, 2003 — A recent series of rumors have popped up surrounding a so-called promotional shot for a third Mummy film, claiming a 2004 release date. While this is already extremely unlikely, as director Stephen Sommers recently told fans at the San Diego Comicon that he hasn't even had time to think about a third Mummy film due to his current monster mash 'Van Helsing', not to mention the fact that neither Brendan Fraser nor Rachael Weisz have made any official statements about signing onto a third film, the answer to this conundrum seems to lie at Universal Studios Theme Parks, where a new Mummy ride is set to open next year. "'3000 Years In The Making'... The Mummy will return in 2004," says an article on Screamscape.com. "Universal has described the new ride as a fusion of "Roller Coaster Technology, Space Age Robotics and 'Live' Pyrotechnic Special Effects". While the Hollywood ride will be similar to the Florida ride opening in 2004 as well, it is clear that the space available in Florida will allow for a much bigger ride than in Hollywood." So for those of you hoping that the image linked below was meant to signal the return of Imhotep to your local cinemas...sorry. You're just gonna have to wait a little bit longer.
