Emma Thompson says give Arnie a chance

October 13, 2003 — While promoting her latest movie "Love Actually", Emma Thompson shared her opinions about Arnold Schwarzenegger's recent California gubernatorial win.

"He'll probably do a rather good job," Thompson said this weekend during interviews for her latest film, Love Actually, in which she plays the British prime minister's sister.

"He's kind of done so much in so many different areas that I can't imagine him not making a success of whatever he does. Whether his version of success will chime with yours ... remains to be seen."

Thompson knows Schwarzenegger personally. They co-starred in Ivan Reitman's comedy Junior (1994). But the Republican governor-elect and the Cambridge-educated Thompson do not share the same politics.

"Of course, at heart I'm a Democrat, that's the thing," Thompson said. "But what are Arnold's policies? That's what I haven't been able to work out. I guess that's not the point, is it, in this instance? What can I tell you?"
