| How excited (or not) I am to see this movie... |

I know it seems like all we've been able to focus on 'round these parts as of late is Freddy Vs. Jason, from the constant news stories to the contests to the reviews...it's been crazy. Granted, not as crazy as it may be on some other sites, but I digress. The movie is out, we each have our own opinions on it, but you just have to trust me when I tell you this: Freddy Vs. Jason is not going to make or break horror. Plain and simple.
However: If Hollywood is good at anything, it's figuring out how to capitalize quickly on what they perceive the kids want, because the kids means the money from the parents. Always has, always will. Since the team-up managed to make back it's budget opening weekend and beat out the juggernaut that was Grind (that's sarcasm) for the number one spot, that means you can expect, yet again...more slashers.
While that does not make me happy as a horror or film fan in any way, shape, or form, that's the truth of it. The movie's made a shitload of money, aims to make a lot more, and that means a lot of copycats are going to start emerging from development hell come Monday morning. It's scary, it really its, but I can't see it being any other way unless Freddy Vs. Jason drops off big time next week, which somehow I doubt.
But around here, what it comes down to is this, fiends. No matter how you feel about the movie, it's characters, it's plot, it's gore, the fact remains; it's just a movie. Some of the low shots I've been seeing on the steadily increasing thread currently on the boards are just plain juvenile and unnecessary It's an opinion and, like *******s, everyone's got 'em. Yours probably doesn't smell much better than the next guys, but you both have a right to express them as long as you don't resort to playground tactics to get your point across. C'mon guys, we're all better than this.
It'll all be over soon, the movie will fade from our memories and we'll get to move on to new things to argue about...like Jeepers Creepers II... |
