Since its debut on Tuesday, the Madagascar DVD has shipped around 8 million copies.

Madagascar busted out to a good start Tuesday as the industry eyed how DreamWorks Animation's first major release since Shark Tale performed on video.

DreamWorks executives declined to comment on initial sales, but retailers said they were happy with the disc's performance.

"It's doing very well," said Fred Meyer buyer Randy Schaaf. "I would say it's doing as well as [similar titles] in years past."

Industry insiders said the studio was believed to have shipped 8 million copies 1of Madagascar, which earned $180 millionat the box office...
