I fully apprecaite that many people may not care and am also aware of the fact that my comments might be hasty and rash, but from those 8 clips it does not seem like you'll be getting a very accurate portrayal of Jack Aubrey or Stephen Maturin in this movie. Both Crowe's character and Bettany's seem likeable and engaging and I'm sure they'll make good movie characters, but the do not remind me that much of the characters I've come to feel like I know so well from the 20 novels.

I should say that this seems to be more the fault of the script than the actors. Some of the lines they're delivering are just simply out of character.

I hope I'm wrong. Please let me be wrong.

I should add that the featurettes on the apple site looked great. I'm still confussed about this movie. I don't know whether it will be fantastic or not. I hope that even if Jack and Stephen are not exactly like I'd invisioned them, that you get a real sense of what life was like during this era aboard one of these ships. Ultimately that's the great talent that O'Brian had and hopefully that Peter Wier will have.

Blakkfoxx...you are completely entitled to voice your opinion. I know that lover's or the POB books are concerned about the authenticity of the characters on screen. I guess we will have to wait and see.

I had a quick something to say about the clips on line. My husband saw them and said, "Well, no need to see the movie, got the gist of it from the clips."

Obviously that's not an option in our house but I wonder if maybe other people might feel the same way. People who are not POB or Crowe/Bettany fans. Maybe the clips are TMI?
