Well, I've been exchanging posts with several people on the IMDB message boards for this movie and many of them are terribly upset that the movie is not R. They claim it is "selling out" and I even had one guy say they were "Disney-fying" the violence. The basic arguement is that in order to be true to this violent world of naval battle, you need to show it in gruesome detail. Any attempt to tone down the violence is seen as a Hollywood compromise of accuracy for ticket sales. I for one think that the movie will be plently violent and that Peter Weir will find a way to give us the impression of how devastating these battles were without showing "six-inch splinters from the mast crushing through people's skulls." I guess some people feel the movie's a total loss if that shot is not included.

Interesting. I think people are just so numb to violence, they feel cheated without it
