I hated the first Resident Evil film. There was absolutely nothing good about it. It was made so poorly, in fact, that I would go so far as to call it Paul Anderson's worst film, the obvious exception being AVP, which I haven't seen, but which is obviously also a piece of trash. First of all, the soundtrack was terrible, sounding like that of a mindless action movie rather than a creepy horror film - which, I suppose, is appropriate since the film was little more than mindless action. It was predictable because it followed the pattern of most of Anderson's other films: In the beginning, kill off a bunch of characters almost all at once. Allow some others to survive, later killing them off in unimaginative ways. Finally, kill off the last few until only one person remains. I had a problem with the fact that the killing seemed to happen because certain characters "needed to go." The plot was wholly unbelievable for me. What was the Red Queen about, anyway? I didn't really understand it. As a defense system, it didn't seem as advanced as it should have been. Also, to my knowledge it wasn't even part of the games, just like the "hive." In a word, the film was boring. It is also arguably the worst "zombie" film ever - and that's saying a lot because there have been some baaaad "zombie" movies.
I have yet to see Resident Evil: Apocalypse , but from what I have heard it sounds just as cheesy as the last one. As soon as I heard about Alice's "superpowers" I immediately lost interest. |
