December 7, 2003 — Tom Cruise's The Last Samurai was the #1 film for the weekend, earning an estimated $24.4 million.
"It's almost a lock that every time he opens a movie it comes in at No. 1. This guy is box office insurance personified," said Paul Dergarabedian, president of box-office tracker Exhibitor Relations. "For an R-rated film, a very long film, a period epic I think this speaks to Tom Cruise's drawing power."
Samurai toppled last week's #1 The Cat in the Hat, which fell to #5 earning an estimated $7.3 million. Jessica Alba's Glitter, er...I mean, Honey opened with a strong $14 million. The Haunted Mansion was #3 with $9.5 million. Check out more results at the link below. |
