Amaranth said: Samurai's. I just LOVE the Lone Wolf and Cub novels.
I do too would pick Samurai for honor over ruthlessness. And lets not forget that Ninjas are not what many kids think about them. They are not peace loving masked super-hero's. They murder from shadows for the highest offer and you'd have to pay them extra if you wanted them to have mercy. And of course the Samurai's weren't always the good guys either. But still I pick Samurai too.
Contrary to popular belief, what you stated is merely an image of the ninja idolized by American pop culture.
The truth is, the way of the ninja was all about nature and understanding it. The ninja were not just ruthless killers, no act of the ninja was unjust.
The main reason for battle between the samurai and ninja: the samurai beleaved that evolution was moving forward to rapidly, and the ninja believed that nature should take its coarse on its own. This was also why the samurai were brought down, they refused to buy guns as it was against the way of the samurai, one would rather die by the sword and have their ways be forgotten forever, then to dishonor the way.
Anyway the ninja were very innovative, and had a method for EVERYTHING. The ninja were generally practioners of nature. They trained very hard, this is why they were so powerfull.
Now dont get me wrong, Ninja were around for over a thousand years. Over the coarse of this time naturally there were ninja clans that were merciless murderers and thieves, but such clans were rare, and hunted by the "good" ninja clans, to main the honor of their position.
Also the ninja were not always against the samurai, some ninja solely served the samurai, some only wanted to kill them, some wanted peace, and some clans existed only to pertect their village. All ninja clans had there own beliefs, wich is why they are still very mysterious.
Ninja still exist today, though they no longer partake in battles and other such actions as the warriors of old... Well as far as anybody knows, but then again we wouldnt know anyway if they were doing it right!
I know much about the ninja ways as I have studied them for about 28 years. I was born in Japan, and studied with a grandmaster of Ninjutsu (the Togakure Ryu Ninja). As I stated ninja no longer use their tactics as they in the old, though they do still study and practice them intensively.
Also both the words Ninja and Samurai only add the "S" to show ownership, when using them in a plural format they are still spelled the same (no "S").
Im glad to have informed you of the ninja, I have much more info to share. |
