In MI#1's defense, the story supported the action instead of the action supporting the story, like
MI#2

It's M:I 2 by a land slide. There was way more action and comic relief. M:I 1 was too wierd and at times boring, but somes scenes in that movie did kick ass.

I prefer MI. To me, a more intellectual film than MI2. However, the more I watch MI2, the more I like it.

The two are very different. Its kinda hard to compare them, actually.

M:I2 was good, but it had too much action. They kind of ruined it with some thing s that were cool, but overdone, like the motorcycle scene. The first one was not too overdone with the super hypo action scenes.

THe 1st one was definitly better than than m:i2
No hesitation. No comparison.
De Palma's film was a real espionnage film. With a plot really worked, thought. With an atmosphere who's a tribute to old spies movies set in Europe cities during WW2 or the COld War. It is intelligent, surprising.

M:I2 is just a succession of impressive action scenes (good scenes though). It is OK, but it is not the essence of Mission:impossible.

But Mission:impossible is not supposed to be an action movie !!! It must be espionnage ! Secret agents... Like De Palma did !

I watched M:I last night for the first time in a while. I have watched M:I2 lately, because its been on TV. I have to jump back to my original post and say M:I is much better. BY FAR. Vinz is right, De Palma held true to the type of movie it is supposed to be.

M:I-2 was a good movie by itself, but if you're comparing it to M:I, it sucked. M:I had alot of team work, and it had supporting characters that you actually cared about when they died, that's very unusaul considering they had short roles. There was alot of pointless action in M:I-2, where as M:I i never found myself getting bored. M:I-2 is a good movie if you dont look at it like a sequel to follow up after M:I, you have to look at it from a 007 perspective to call it a good movie.

M:I 2 is a good action movie. Nothing exceptionnal.
No espionnage aspect, no suspense typical to the M:I style, no complex intrigue.
I gotta see the 1st one back, cos I didn't see it since a few years

Both Missions were good, but here is why I chose Mission#1: first, this is a SPY MOVIE people! Action movies like Broken Arrow or Face-Off(One hell of a movie both by John Woo, dir of #2) are suppose to have all of that action, but spy movies must have INTELLECT! Two, I personally like the cast in #1 a whole lot better. Anthony Hopkins had only a "cameo" role compared to Jon Voight who was great in the first movie and Ving Rhames had much better lines. I also did not like Thandie Newton much. She came off trashy and the bad guy was plain piss-offed in the whole movie. Basically, MI2 was Tom and a bunch of no-name people w/ a Hopkins cameo.

I hope the next one(David Fincher) goes more back to #1, with a script and a deep cast!

To each their own.

OK listen up
both movies are good but if i wanted to watch rambo i would certainly be not at the primiere of mi:2,well it looked like a rambo 2000 version, almost no espionnage ,did not stay true to the essence of mission:impossible. Its a good movie dont get me wrong ,but the first one was wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better no doubt about it.

Come on God answer me,years and years i've been asking you why,Why is the innocent dead and the guilty alive, where is justice?where is punishement?or have you already answered, have you already said to the world, here is justice

THere both great films. I liked MI:! because, it was a spy thriller. So, I agree with what everyone is saying in that regard. Yet, 2 was easier to follow. I don't mind a movie that makes you think, but, MI:1 kept having plot twists, that, it jumbled my mind WAY too much. I'm still uncertain if I get it.

M:I-2 was immensly superior. More action, easier to understand, more humain too - I found the first movie kinda cold.

I'll be direct on this... MI was an awesome spy/mystery movie. MI2 was an awesome action movie. The problem with deciding which one is better is that they're not the usual original/sequel combination like most movies are, even nowadays. All that these two movies had in common were both Tom Cruise's and Ving Rhames's characters, nothing more. So it's hard to compare the movies and say which one is 'better'. They both were great, and I hope to see the third one as either a continuation of one of the previous two, or yet another way to make this movie.

The first one will always be the best to me. The second one was good for action, yes, but action was all it was good for. The first one had a lot more.

Jesus are you kidding me (all the people who said 2)? Mission Impossible one is a better movie than its sequal. Infact, MI 2 is so bad that I am ashamed of seeing it, and surprised that Tom Cruise actually accepted the offer of Ethan Hunt. Oh wait, I forgot, he must have been given millions of dollars and greedingly accepted. Like most actors and actresses.

Frankly I am ashamed that some peolpe like MI 2 because it has more action (which I may add, is not a good factor) It is becuase of action, and people who only want to see action, that moives are going in a downward spiral.
I am also ashamed that anyone would like this movie at all becuase it has 1: bad script, 2:bad order of shots, 3:bad cinematography, 4: poor acting, (I wouldnt go so far as to say the acting is bad, partly becuase of number 1)...
I could sit and name more reasons for ever but that just wouldnt be productive would it. I mean its not as if I am going to change anyones mind and therefor altering their bad tayste in film.
Mission Impossible 1 had much more espionage also, which is better. The characters actually have ot use their brain, whcih means that the viewers of the movie have to use thier brain. WHOA!
In MI 1 Ethan Hunt saves a police officer from death and states "Zero body count.", Mission Impossible is more like "Ten thousand body count. Bitch"

Mission Impossible 1, has a variety of good elements which its sequal does not. It has a complicated, exiting, smart, s m a r t, script. It has good actors that fit their roles well. It istn filled with action. The action which is in the movie, is smart, well paced, yet satisfying action. It is fun to observe. Unlike Mission Impossibe 2, where guns and explosions have now altered a well directed, well acted, well written Brian DePalma film, into something that can be classified as one of the worst transitions between two fillms the world has ever seen.

Congragilations John Woo! You have successfully managed to sculpt a well built, well proportioned piece of clay into something that looks like it wants to be cooked for dinner.

NOTE- I think what went wrong is that John Woo took two years to get a large collection of his own ****, spread it over every frame, turned the roll in to a "film production company", who cordingly agreed to release it.

MI:2 why?a.Directed by John woo b.Good fight scenes c.Gotto love that motorcycle chase scene.

"The dead are following," said Legolas. "I see shapes of men and of horses, and pale banners like shreds of cloud, and spears like winterthickets on a misty night. The dead are following."
'Yes, the Dead ride behind. They have been summoned,' said Elladen(in the Paths Of the Dead)

M:I is the better film overall imo, M:I-2 is still entertraining nonetheless, though. I pretty much agree with the posters that stated M:I was more of a spy/espionage film (which truely is how any M:I flick should be), while M:I-2 was more of a non-stop action flick.
