The principals behind the ALIEN movies (well, at least the first two masterpieces) do love to taunt the fans with talk of returning to that xenomorphic franchise.

Sigourney Weaver recently discussed her iconic woman-warrior with MTV, and the possibility of seeing her on screen again. "Theres definitely uncharted territory for Ripley," she offered. Curiously, she may not feel the same about the Giger-crafted extraterrestrial, which she thinks has "become somewhat debased by this computer generated thing. I havent seen [AvP] but I just think if you overexpose the creature, thats a mistake." Too true, my dear.

So does that imply that Weaver and director Ridley Scott would be interested in a Ripley film without the famous black killing machines? "Wed have to go back to the drawing board on [the alien]," she said. "What were interested in is taking the character of Ripley and seeing what other science fiction story we can tell about someone who has lived several lives."

While the prospect of Ripley's further adventures -- or another ALIEN movie that's not set on Earth and made by FX-obsessed filmmakers -- is intriguing, Weaver is almost 60 and Scott is 71 (and already working on a dozen other things), and James Cameron is busy creating new worlds and technology, so the unfortunate reality is that Ripley will probably remain in stasis while the Aliens are further savaged by inferior films.

As long as the writers who did AVP aren't involved, I don't see why this couldn't be good.

True, that movie was a nightmare.
