I would like to see Alien 5 pick up where Alien left off. ALL sequels have been dreams Ripley had while in Hypersleep in the escape shuttle. Doesn't mean I didn't love Aliens, I did. But people living on LV-426, with no real sunlight to speak of (which we need to stay healthy, physically and emotionally) never really jived with me. And the facehugger aboard the Sulaco in Alien 3, which somehow escaped from its egg for no apparent reason, the egg getting there in the first place also being a total mystery to me, since the Queen Alien had detached from her egg-layer mechanism...and I agree, there are dreamlike qualities of 3 and 4. Making all the sequels dreams Ripley had while in the escape shuttle is not bashing the other flicks. In fact, I think it'd be a real kick in the arse! Ripley is found soon after she escapes in the original Alien, her traumatic experience has aged her, and the rest is up to Scott, Cameron, et al.

Man I hate that whole, "It was just a dream approach." Why not just start with a new leading role, finally let Ripley die, and start a new storyline.

I don't mind the dream approach, they set up for it perfectly with the director's cuts of Alien 3-4. However, I'd rather a prequel to Alien.

I think the dream idea is terrible, especially since it's also my opinion that Aliens was the best of the series.

The egg being on the transport isn't really that big of a stretch. After all, it's not just queen aliens that can lay eggs. It's just queen aliens that can lay eggs at a rapid rate. That shuttle had been sitting BY ITSELF for the duration of Aliens. ANY of those hundreds of Aliens could have laid that egg.

As for prequels to the Alien films? That's easy. We've now got two of them in the form of Alien vs. Predator.

I agree. And the avp films should be nightmares instead of dreams and only count as side stories NOT prequels.
