If this ring really existed then just about anyone who says they could resist the power is kidding themselves. It gave a poor creature dissociative identity disorder! We're talking some seriously powerful addictive chemicals or something.

No one could. It's very nature is to corrupt.

The race of Men were generally far too weak to refuse the Ring. If it was openly offered to you, knowing what it was, I don't think anyone here would be able to turn it away.

But it was one thing to carry it, wielding it and it's full power was impossile to humans. You'd need to wrest control of it from Sauron and replace him in order to do that, and not even Aragorn was capable of doing so.
