March 12, 2004 — You're going to have to wait an extra three months to see Russell Crowe in his boxing gloves in "Cinderella Man".
Universal Pictures has delayed the picture's release until March 18 next year, claiming it needs more time to mount a marketing campaign. It was originally set for a Dec. 17 berth.
Because of its pedigree, the movie -- which reunites Crowe with director Ron Howard and producer Brian Grazer, the Oscar-winning team behind "A Beautiful Mind" -- had been considered a potential Oscar contender in the 2004 race, but now it will have to take aim at the 2005 contest instead.
Crowe dislocated his shoulder training for the period picture, and so the beginning of production has been postponed until April 19. However, the studio said the injury was not a factor in its decision to delay the release.
