Hellboy “Nothing Special” — Tokey [More reviews by this user] Anticipation Level: How excited (or not) I am to see this movie... It's not the worst thing to come out of a comic book, but it's definitely no masterpiece. First off, let me give props to Rob Pearlman for being a great Hellboy, his moments made the movie at least bareable. The comedy was also a plus, however it lacked the one thing a comic book (especially Hellboy) should have... ACTION. Hellboys origin is one of the things that make the characters great, but the movie managed to make it boring... how? I have no idea. [SPOILER] The raid was quick, the intro was quicker, and the people who don't know a lot about hellboy were lost right from the getgo, they didnt even know why Rasputin was helping the Nazis, why Rasputin whom doesnt believe in religion was summoning a demon. [/SPOILER] Don't even get me started on the horrible fight scenes... [SPOILER] one minute hellboy is having trouble fending of one of those monsters the next hes taking on 6 at a time? Its mind boggling! [/SPOILER] Sure comic movies arent known for realism but they easily could have fixed that mistake (one of many I might add). I'm not one to pick apart at movies flaws but they are so obvious in this movie it's disturbing. The acting was great, except for Selma Blair who deserves nothing for her work in this movie because that's exactly the amount of effort she put into her role. She definitely didnt help an already ill fated movie with her bad performance but cannot be held soley resposible for all the blunders in the storyline. Maybe it appeals to "true" hellboy fans but the general public will chew this up and spit it out because of its sour taste. At best it deserves a star and 1/2 soley because of the Hellboy character alone and Rob's great acting (and humor) the rest of the movie to be blunt... is garbage.
