September 21, 2002 — Reese Witherspoon talks to Mary Hart from Entertainment Tonight about how she relates with her character in Sweet Home Alabama:

Reese told Mary she could identify with her new character because of her own upbringing in Nashville, TN. "It deals with a lot of issues that are sort of in my own life, growing up in a small town, then moving to a big city to try and make it, going back and seeing what people think of you." She also revealed that what most impressed the folks back home was her appearance on the cover of People magazine: "It was a big deal when I was on the cover of People. I mean, that's making it big in Nashville!"
