Just a Quote from the article
"It will be as long as it needs to be," says director Peter Jackson, who is busy editing the film right now. "The third is my favorite one in the trilogy. It's almost biblical and makes me cry. It's about incredible courage and the last part of it is just mind-boggling."
I just highlighted some words in there that I would like to raise points about.
1. Biblical: Being a christian, there is no one word explitive that can trump this word in importance, so PJ had better know what he's talking about, I don't doubt that he does, but nothings' perfect.
2. The Last part of it is just mind-boggling: Keep in mind that the last PART does not mean the last SCENE. So i'm guessing that he means the final hour and a half/final third of the movie. I'm thinking that
since the battle at the black gates (if there is a battle, can't remember, do they start fighting and do the forces of mordor stop fighting when the ring is destroyed/when they see the eagles?? please someone tell me!!) takes place after the battle at Pelennor Fields, it must be in this final third. Remember, Sam and Frodo have to go to the Cross Roads, venture into Shelobs Lair, then Sam has to have his choices scene, then he has to rescue Frodo from Cirith Ungol, then they have to venture to mount doom and 'toss the ring in' and get rescued by the eagles. This, i'm thinking, would be a full 3 hour movie in itself. Sam will probably get Frodo out of Cirith Ungol at around the hour and a half - two hour mark, to leave enough time for them to get to Mount Doom. Mount Doom and 'The end of all things' (which I think will be the most impressive scene in the trilogy) will be also in the final third of the movie. Not to mention all the stuff Aragorn and co is doing. (Paths of the Dead, (which im not too sure about either, where are they located in middle earth??), Voice of Saruman, Pellenor Fields, the Pyre of Denethor, etc etc)... woah, listing these i'm starting to wonder how they're going to fit it all in.
And they'd BETTER have the
Well, i'm Back
line in the movie, even if it occurs
When Sam meets Elenor in the Road outside his house (there was a photo of this), instead of inside, like in the book. He could be hugging her and say the line, with tears running down his face, pan out to a loverly shot of the shire fade out roll credits the end honk honk so sad (i'm serious). That would be the perfect ending.
"Where is the horse and the rider? Where is the horn that was blowing? They have passed like rain on the mountain, like a wind in the meadow. The days have gone down in the West, behind the hills... to Shadow." |

maccom said: And they better not leave out any parts...except for maybe
the Grey Havens...I'd be perfectly happy if we just saw the hobbits all enter the Shire and there we go...no sadness, no 'Well, I'm back'...just plain happiness.
If they left out
The Grey Havens - and they won't, PJ said that is where the last scene takes place
Then it would leave out one of the deppest messages in the novels, which, i think, (correct me if i'm wrong) is that
they can never go back to the life they had before, they've been forever changed by these events, for the worse, even.
. Not to mention it would be a complete bastardization of tolkiens novels. "Where is the horse and the rider? Where is the horn that was blowing? They have passed like rain on the mountain, like a wind in the meadow. The days have gone down in the West, behind the hills... to Shadow." |
