Its amazing how this little gem has managed to slip through the 'radar' of coutingdown. I've been following its developement closely and couldn't wait for it's premier. Obviously I managed to see the film.

I discovered later that the film has barely reached the ten million mark (with a budget of seventy million), which shocked me greatly. How can a film with Mann directing and Depp and Bale acting fail to make a splash on the box office?

It was a good film, excellent if need be. However, it was one step short of a masterpeice. I had a few minor complaints. For one the film was slightly inaccurate (baby face was killed prior to Dillinger), the camera was really grainy and shaky, and Alvin Karpis (my favorite historic bank robber) was shown twice and mentioned a million times without any action involvment. These complaints are redeamable as obvioulsy, they come from someone who knows the source material and is upset with the miss use.

It was a good film, chip in some bucks to see it if you can.

I'm going to have to see it again. This redneck couple kept talking to each other and on their cell phone throughout the movie so I wasnt able to enjoy it.

And actually, Baby Face Nelson was killed after Dillinger. The very next day Hoover declared him Public Enemy No. 1.

And how could the camera be grainy?? It was filmed with Digital HD.

He probably meant digital noise, which is the digital equivalent to film grain. Unless the theater he saw it in converted the movie into 35mm film, since not a lot of theaters carry digital projections.

Which sucks, becuase that's the only true way to watch a movie that was done in HD. I only have one multiplex that's carrying a digital projection and right now they're reserving it for Up instead, probably cause they'll get more money out of a kid flick than an R rated crime drama.

Most movies advertise themselves way too much to get their spotlight, but I think this film was actually lacking the advertisement it needed.

I swear, I don't think I've seen anything saying that this movie is out right now besides a newspaper headline. It could be just me though.

Plus: you've got all of these action-junkies enjoying Transformers; and you have families that would definitely rather see Ice Age 3 for a fun time.

So, I guess it's just a case bad timing.

I've seen plenty of ads for this, I suppose it's just not doing too big because it's not an easy film to market. I mean look at the commercials, about 25 seconds in 30 are shoot em up bits. But then again this is going up against movies like Transformers so they want to grab that audience I suppose.

But again, I won't be seeing unless I find a theater that is showing this in digital projection. Seeing an HD movie converted in 35mm film just doesn't translate too well, even vice versa has its disadvantages. Oh well.

This film is PROBABLY a work of genius, but I HOPE that the reason that it's doing so poorly is that the rest of the world has followed the same path that I'm taking in boycotting any movie that the petulant child (Bale) is in.

I DOUBT it, but I can always dream.

Bale was awesome as usual. Love him or hate him, the guy has a natural ability to act (with the exception of Terminator: Salvation...stiff much?). He's hardly in the film, me and the person I saw the film discussed it later. If you cut down the film to just the scenes that Bale was in, you'd probably only get 15 minutes. The film focusses on Depp's character far more.

I have seen a huge advertising campaign for this film including two weekends on the History channel devoted to Gangsters and mobsters of the time period in support of the film. Mind you, this is Canada. I think more than enough people have heard of it, but as said people are either up to the hills for transformers or taking the family to ice age.

I just think this film is great because it is a 'guy' movie that not only has the action but also much though, unlike what we've seen in transformers.

Oh, I don't doubt that Bale is a brilliant ACTOR.

He's one of the best out there right now, but that still doesn't give him license to do what he did.

No matter how many GOOD things you do in life, it doesn't buy you credit to do BAD things.
