January 27, 2002 — ``Monster's Ball'' is a drama centering on the electric chair, but last week filmmakers were wondering: Who pulled the switch?
In order to honor composer Thad Spencer, the Society of Composers & Lyricists held a screening for the Lions Gate film Monster's Ball. The screening was held Wednesday and featured a Q&A session with the film's director Marc Forster, editor Matt Chesse and Spencer.
15 minutes before the movie ended, high winds knocked out power to the entire 7000 block of Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood, which is the site of the screening.
Over 300 people sat patiently in the dark. Spencer joked that he and Chesse would perform scenes from the final 15 minutes. However they proceeded with the hourlong Q&A, illuminated by flashlight.
Power was restored to the block two hours later. During this time the filmmakers came up with a solution...
