Hi if any mods read this, I just wanted to start a petition asking for a thread dedicated to the NFL where people like myself who are interested in football can talk with each other and share opinions. If anyone agrees that CD should make an NFL thread (or general sports thread) please post here! And mods, if you don't agree to make one could you please state why?

Why create a forum when you can talk about it at the TV Forum.

What about a sports forum in general? It would certainly cover enough topics to keep active.

Yea...you cant just give sports a small section of something...I mean with all the stuff that happens you COULD make a forum for each team but all we want is one. I prefer one for the NFL but I'll compromise for one sports forum. We really should have one and it might draw more ppl to CD also? With all the stuff that you talk about in sports it will get confusing to mix it up with other things from television. Please mods PLEASE give us an NFL thread!

oh and trust me...I will KEEP such thread alive! There is so much stuff to talk about. There are I believe 32 teams in the NFL and something to talk about in off, pre, regular, and post season unlike each individual movie thread where the thread dies after every new piece of news has gotten old.

so again I BEG OF YOU! PLEASE GIVE US AN NFL THREAD!

Sometimes I think ya'll forget this is a 'movie' countdown site.
So I'm gathering you don't feel a sub board in the TV Forum is good enough for general sports chatter - right?

If this is the case- explain to me why it needs a separate area- I add the 'areas' -and they include everything you see - the news sections, the image section, features, reviews, tracking, submittals and the board itself. It's not just a matter of a message board, but having all this extra stuff created which would be useless, as the area itself would not be updated w/anything.

I'm not flat out refusing here, I just would like to know why a sub board wouldn't suffice in the TV forum and why all the extra is needed when you only wish to chat.

I need to jet for now, so you have tonight to collaborate and convince me tomorrow.

Night all

If you had a sub board how can that get confusing w/the other TV chatter - it is essentially it's own board, just housed within the TV forum which is rather fitting since you can check out just about all sports on the TV to begin with

couldnt we have a tracking to when the day of the superbowl begins? then also one to when the season begins? and also have ppl like review the teams before the season starts? and have all the players who are on the teams listed. and also for like images have weekly photoshots of the week that has just happend, everythin could be updated daily easily since different things happen daily. and for news it could have weekly scores and w,e new is going on around the league

Alright...now when it comes to news, images, etc. the versus forum has nothing in any of those areas. In fact all it really has is different threads with people debating who is better. So if this is the case why was that not simply given a sub forum?

But the difference here is there is A LOT of news in the NFL. There are constantly injuries, scandals, trades, name-calling, and other tid bits going on in the NFL. News will especially come in handy in the off season because a site like this can confirm player acquisitions. And yea...perhaps a countdown to the Superbowl would be a good idea because it IS the most watched thing on tv in this country. And pictures...there are SO MANY nice catches, dramatic wins/losses...pictures will be no problem.

And finally just wanted to let you know that I DO realize that this IS a movie site (a very good/reliable one as well) and will use this primarily as that but I just wanted a forum for the NFL because it is my most frequented site which would make information more easily accesible and I also prefer to talk about sports with ppl here that I have been acquainted with as oppossed to starting brand new and being the noob on the block at some other sports board. Hopefully others will share the same thoughts. Hope this sort of justified my reasoning for my request. Thanks for listening

I apologize if anyone has brought this up but I just wanted to get all my points out in a quick, brief post.

I figure if we have numerous 'interest' forums in CD sports should definitely be a part of it. We have a versus forum, an RPG forum, a music forum, even a Disney forum. I guarantee you if a sports forum is created it will get more attention than all of these forums.

I think if Disney gets it own general forum sports should as well... I mean its not like there hasn't been a million great sports movies. Anything from Happy Gilmore to Friday Night Lights could be discussed in one single forum! It really does sound good to me, not to mention with all the activity in the sports world (year round) there is no way it will ever die, I mean look at this forum as an example... do you think it will be as dead as this board? 2 threads? I check out most new movie forums and all the non blockbusters have next to nothing in them... a sports forum cannot do worse than these.

You guys should give it a shot, I think you will be pleasantly suprised at what kind of attention it might bring to CD

The only thing I can see as a potential problem is the agruments generated about sports teams but I don't think it will be any bigger problem than trolls that pop up here and there every so often, not to mention CD has had its share of controversial topics with flaming involved on numerous occassions anyway. Overall I think the pros definitely outweigh the cons. Give it a shot!

Yeah, people argue way too much on this site over whether an unknown actor LOOKS like they are right for the part based on one crappy picture, or whether the fact that you disliked a movie is actually fact or opinion....can you imagine what would go on with a sports board? I think the only thing more argued about than religion in this world is sports. Now believe me, I'm all for arguing (I'm in NY and have to live among Yankee fans while cheering for what they consider a "second-rate team." All I do is argue with them.) If a sports board is to be created there's no way that can be moderated, honestly. It would get out of hand way too quickly and if that's not going to be allowed then it's just not going to work...just my thoughts.

arguing is a competitve nature among humans, yes thats a given, which makes things more interesting, it gives ppl to belive in wat there saying more, and it gives people a chance to express their feelings which i feel is a really good idea, there are some kids in this world that go to school and dont talk to anyone, then come home go online and talk and it gives a shot for thjem to relate and be frinds wiht other people who are rooting for the same team as others. There is no need to stop arguing becuz it is a competitive nature among us all but to limit what people can say in the message bored, just cut out profanity such as curse words and and cut out threats and name calling, its exacly like other boards on this site but just related to sports, publicity would go up and everyone would be happy

It shouldn't be too hard to control, people just have to point out when someone is getting carried away and crossing the line. It doesn't even need to be a moderator who points it out, I think CD is filled with plenty of sports fans who can keep a cool head.

yea...I think the posters of CD have enough self control to help each other out. There have been plenty of times a flamer would just pop out of nowhere and blatantly disparage someone or the entire CD posters as a whole and everyone makes it a point to make sure the person stops or see that the person is dealt with

That's like asking why we need any movie forums when we can just discuss the movies at a general movie forum.

Sports is a broad enough topic to warrant its own forum.

alot of my friends are also obsessed with sports just like me, we talkl about them all the time and all it does is amp us up for the up coming season, its great to hear from other fans around the league and hear their take on how they think their team is doing and how they feel other teams chances are. I kno that if this forum is made, my friends will would love to join it.

First, it is no secret that this site has boards for topics other than movies. There is a movie forum, a comic book forum, a tv forum, a versus forum and a Disney forum. All of which are great and provide a unique place to discuss things that would be considered off topic on any other forum. Some of these forums have been quite popular ofver the years. I am sure the Disney forum has had more traffic and interest than the Basic Instinct 2 forum.

Secondly, it would provide one easy to find place to discuss sports, which is a popular topic. If you look back over the last year you will see NFL football being discussed on the Invinvible forum (which makes sense. Go EAGLES!), the World Cup. We have discussed Baseball and the Olympics on the X-Men 3 board. And of course there was the obligatory American Football vs. European Futbal (Soccer to the rest of us) thread on the Versus forum. Wouldn't it be better to have all these threads on a single site dedicated to the sports enthusiast?

Finally, this opens up a new market (and new target audiences for your advertisers) as this site would not just be competing with sites like Ain't it Rude.com, but would then also be a viable alternative to people using the ESPN.com message forums.

Goodness... to be a viable alternative to ESPN or say ESPN2 or heck even SPEED (being a NASCAR Fan) I would need a dedicated volunteer sports editor to manage that area and put up news- I honestly would have no time to edit that forum, I'm spread too thin as it is... Editing is a big job and has lots of requirements - are one of you willing to step up to do this IF a forum is created?

and yes, on a side note I'm taking all of your comments in and discussing them with the other figure heads of the site...

Okay now to business
*In steps a figure head*
what NKK aka Kit-Kat says is true, is anyone here ready to step up and edit a sports countdown and frankly do we want sports news splattered across the home page of what is primarily a movie fan site? I'm inclined to just say no. I mean all we need is Raiders fans coming here and well we all know how well behaved they are...

I would step up but in all respects I know nothing about anything besides football. Is this a one person job or is there a few people involved? Im not sure how the admin stuff works I just know how to post and stuff lol

im sure a few people can work on one type of sport, that way things can get done faster, and then fined ppl that are real big fans of other types of sports and have it done like that. you kno? but like make sure they are dedicated to doing this, like its not a try it out and leave it thing, liek have them commited.

Alright guys I was talking to Kit-Kat on myspace and she said that if we get the people she might put up the forum. SO I asked her if she could describe the jobs of moderators and editors and this is what she sent me:

"Well, Moderators as you well know keep things in line on the boards and are peacekeepers, they are also suppose to draw peeps to their specific boards and keep discussions going. They also have to have another moderator to sponsor them and be 18. For something like a Sports forum someone would have to be pretty frequently checking on it. The more moderators the better as coverage wouldn't be dependent on one person.
-------------------------
--------------------
For an editor you have to have some computer savvy- and at least an hr a day I'd say - more is fantastic - since you have to hunt the net for news and post stories, the more time you have and spend the more the area is beefed up and current- but we don't expect editors to be 24.7 - the time is up to you but we do ask for at least 5+ hrs week.... I'd expect an editor to cover various sports and toss a few stories up daily. Nothing catastrophic There are guides and training for both moderator and editors so it can be learned easy enough if you have internet and computer skills..."

Well I'm about a year and 2 months away from 18 so I'm out of the running. Longshot how old are you (just suggesting you since you have most posts)? Sorry that I can't be of anymore help but I promise to actively post news and stuff on the board if it will help any mods or editors.

COME ON GUYS! We are close we just need a few good men to take this forum and make it their baby! lol

**Oh and heres your first bit of news: Superbowl XLI will be held on February 2, 2007 in Miami.**

You're right...but I was on myspace and didn't feel like coming all the way back here to ask that question...and myspace seems faster at getting questions answered to me anyways lol. Ok, well I would do editor but the only thing is I don't know too much about other sports like baseball, soccer, etc. I wouldn't mind being a moderator. But if nobody wants to take editor I will try to the best of my ability to take the position and post stuff about other sports as well

How did the Mets do against the Phils the last two days?
Oh yeah, the lowly Phillies kicked the crap out of them. Sorry.

Go Dodgers.

Is there any way to set this up without a news portion?

Why don't you want a news section?

Certainly - by having it added as just a board which would need to be in a parent area like the TV forum- then it would be a sub board for that and no news needed.
