Hey, guys,
As the title of this topic mentions, I've started a petition to try and convince 20th Century Fox to make a fourth "X-Men" film.

Now, I know a lot of you are probably wondering if I've finally gone off my rocker for starting yet another internet petition. Perhaps, but there are several reasons why I'm doing this...

1.) "X-Men: The Last Straw" sucked. Plain and simple.

2.) Bryan Singer has expressed interest in directing another "X-Men" film. I say, let him! It's not like "Superman" is bogging him down anymore and Singer is interested in doing another "X-Men" movie, possibly a prequel or spinoff. I'd like for Singer to get the whole gang back together, make another team move and fix what Brett Ratner, Fox, Simon Kinberg and Zak Penn broke with the third film!

3.) A good story, character development, and good action sequences. I don't mean to upset anyone who likes the following two films mentioned, but I thought "X3" and "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" were awful because they lacked both qualities (and I was smart enough to stay away from "Wolverine" this time). This is what an "X-Men 4" needs. And since we have prequels and spin-offs coming out over the next few years, who's to say an "X4" isn't far behind?

4.) Because I want James Marsden back as Cyclops, alive. Plain and simple. Honestly, I still can't believe the off-screen death he got in "X3" and fan reaction to Cyclops' death is overwhelmingly negative. Also, I want to see the "cured" mutants - Mystique, Magneto and Rogue - back. In the petition, I've also mentioned for both Cyclops to return and for Rogue to fight. I've also mentioned the possibility of Rogue getting Miss Marvel's powers in the petition text. I've mentioned that fans are split on the Miss Marvel powered Rogue, but I did say that all Rogue fans will agree when I say that Rogue should actually fight with her X-Men teammates this time.

5.) I've also mentioned no recasting. Why should there be? Look who wants to come back! Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Halle Berry, James Marsden, Shawn Ashmore, Anna Paquin... and these are folks who were in three "X-Men" films that WANT to reprise their roles! I've also mentioned for a FEW new mutants to be introduced, such as Gambit and White Queen.

And really, who'd deny wanting to see Gambit and Rogue finally meet on screen and have a relationship? The Gambit/Rogue/Iceman love-triangle would give the Cyclops/Jean/Wolverine triangle a run for its money!

You can find the petition here:

Also, I've got some fan-made petition link images that were sent to me you can use, if you want:

[edit] FOX. Plain and simple. I hope they never get their hands on another quality franchise just so they can [edit] it up . . .

do internet petitions really do anything? In my opinion, they are just wasted time and effort.

Actually, I don't want fox to make another X-men movie, or a prequel or spin off, or anything. That way, the rights convert back to marvel studios, and they can let Bryan Singer make an awesome X-Men movie as opposed to Fox hiring the gossip girl guy to make a mediocre First Class movie.

I can probably answer this with knowledge on film franchise within the studio... And i only know this because i did a study in this during a year of film study at college.

Here is a statement that is believed true. "Fox - sees X-Men, as there Star Wars"

They are highly protective of it, they want to continue the franchise but its always a matter of time and place. There is a rush to get these movies out but its not to do with Fox as to how Marvel wants to introduce all the comic franchise into a movie franchise... so if you look at the pattern, its roughly a new movie every 3 years, Spiderman was 2002, 2004, 2007, 2011 you look at x-men, 2000, 2003, 2006, 2009... Magneto 2012? hopefully it will be sooner.

There all working around each other to bring these movies out. Because at the end of the day there all Marvel properties and Marvel wants to make theses successful so they make money on licesing and studios makes money on box office...

-----------

So here it is, Fox - knew that X-Men: The Last Stand wasnt a great ending to the franchise, however if they want to continue with this, they need to establish and expand the x-men universe. This is why they are doing prequels at the moment... The Prequels are there to introduce the x-men expanded universe, with wolverine, we are introduced to Deadpool, Gambit, Blob - no doubt we will see Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch in Magneto near the end... And with first class maybe Havok and a few others.... The point to this is simply this...

They want to make X-Men 4, but think of it like trilogies, you have the X-Men Original Trilogy, then you will have the X-Men Prequel trilogies, so after them you will get your X-Men Sequel trilogy - the X4 - X6 why?

by this point, you will be introduced to a majority of characters, so instead of having to explain the origins of thousands of new mutants appearing in x4 to x6, there already established in the timeline... Look at Gambit.

Gambit is an 18 year old in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, He will be 33 by time of X4, Do we need to explain who he is? No, why because it was already explained in Wolverine movie.

Granted there will be some time, until we see X4 but think of it this way... if there releasing these movies 3 years apart, Magneto is going to be 2012, First Class, 2015... By time they get to X4 it will be 2018.

in 2018, X-Men 4, the main cast will have aged, Rogue, Iceman, Angel, Colossus, Shadow Cat... There going to be in there 30's well playing there characters in there 30's. as there age will mean the story will take place in the future. So what does that mean? Well x-men 1 to 3 took place within 6 months of each other as the story is told. There isnt even a year gone by before magneto's war, so X-Men 4 could be set 5 years later, Gambit is going to be in his late 30's rogue in her early 30's so the age gap wont be that bad. Plus we will have a well established background of characters that will drive the story forward.

So all im saying is have faith. all those things you want will happen, but on a realistic time line your looking at 2018 before you see x4. maybe sooner... or maybe not at all if that metorite hits earth in 2012 but my point being is that there stretching it out so they can have 3 sets of trilogies...

Thanks for all the replies and comments so far, guys.

Listen, I know most of you hate internet petitions, don't want Fox within a million miles of the "X-Men" franchise (and rightfully so - look at the last two crappy films they gave us), and almost everyone agrees that a reboot of the franchise is a better idea.

Guess what? You're right. I agree with you.

But here are some other reasons why I made the petition the way I did:

REASON #1: By making a petition, I'm trying to get word out that fans want to see an "X-Men 4" with the great cast that we have and not wait so-and-so years until it is made. I know it will be some day, but with so many actors that gave so many great performances and got so little to do in terms of character development and action sequences, why waste them? I don't want to wait (x) amount of years until some 20-something unknowns or whatever take over the roles of the characters we've met.

Not only that, but by waiting around, we lose two valuable things: Bryan Singer, who is actually interested in returning to direct another "X-Men" film of some kind, and the chance to fix the problems now while Fox still can. What if Fox waits too long and forgets to fix what's broken? Not on my watch!

Plus, like it or not, people still make and/or sign internet petitions. Maybe if the word gets out, more attention will be focused on it and more signatures will be collected.

REASON #2: If you think Fox will let their "X-Men" film rights revert to Marvel, it'll be a cold day in Hades and we'll making snow angels with the Grim Reaper. I want a reboot done by Marvel Studios more than an "X-Men 4", but let's face it: this is FOX we're talking about here. If they can make a "Dragonball" sequel to the God-awful first movie they gave us this year, then they'll certainly make another "X-Men".

REASON #3: Fox would realize that by making another team movie, while it'd be difficult and costly, would make more than most of the prequels and/or spin-offs they're planning. "Gambit" might be able to make money and the same goes for "Deadpool", but I'm not so sure they'd be super huge at the box office. Granted, a LOT of fans like them, but most Fox spin-off movies rarely work. "Elektra" backs me up on this.

"X-Men: First Class" could do well, but really, without Wolverine, who sees this being "X2" big?

"X-Men Origins: Magneto" would be all right, I guess, but only if it's told right. And besides, villain-based comic movies are highly unlikely. "Venom" is the perfect example. They had writers all over that character for years, and when they gave us the crummy version we got in "Spider-Man 3", now they've got to start over from scratch...again. Also, who'd really say "Wow, 'Magneto' looks like it'll be the biggest hit of the year!" out loud?

What do you guys think?

i do see your point about the spin offs of these movies, in all honesty a lot of people barely know of these characters and unless there is some spectacular marketing, it could look dismal

Sorry not to be an ass but after reading this I can't help it..... Fox had their Star Wars... it was called Star Wars lol.

Granted they were just there for funding and distribution on the first 2 and just distribution after that but hey, they still had their piece of the pie.

Sorry what i mean by that was Fox sees the X-Men Movie Franchise in the same light as Star Wars...

Although x-men has more history with the comic books, Fox just see a successful X1 - that lead to 3 sequels, thats including wolverine although that a prequel.

Right with spins its difficult because they dont normally become successful. Infact only 10% of spin offs become successful and example of this is Chronicles Of Riddick, although not by Movies but by video games, animated dvd's... considering it is a spin off from Pitch Black, with a targeted Pitch Black 2 at some point.

Wolverine has potential to become its own franchise, Commerically X-Men Origins: Wolverine was successful, and so they will look to develope that into its own marvel franchise aside from the x-men universe. You will probably see this when Wolverine 2 will not have the prefix of X-Men Origins attached to it.

They want to do the same with Deadpool but its really a Make of Break with his character, we havent had 4 movies to develope him like Wolverine and so people wasnt happy with forum term, Barakapool...

So Ryan Renolds has to give an exceptional Deadpool movie, so that franchise is seperated from X-Men... Remember X-Men is the core..

You have the trilogy X1 to X3, then you have the origin trilogy, Wolverine, Magneto and First Class... so after this you're going to see X4 to X6... there really pushing these movies out because i believe they want to be the first series of movies to have 3 trilogies, there competing against Star Wars...

My question is, are we going to see Star Wars Episode 7 to 9 before we see X-Men 4?

I knew what you meant but your wording left that one wide open hehe.

As to when or if we'll see an Episode VII to IX, that's pretty much had the door shut in it's face and welded shut. Lucas has said that he's told his story (Anakin's Rise and Fall and Redemption) with the movies, the rest will be done through books and TV. If they ever do another movie trilogy, it won't be during the life time of the characters from the original trilogy, and even then I seriously doubt we'll see it.

I find your lack of faith disturbing.
