People I've spoken to regarding "First Class" have said they don't even know if it will truly happen. They either have to ignore the comic and recast the kids from X3 (which makes no sense with the title) or go with the comic and start the whole franchise over from scratch by recasting everyone. They didn't realize this when they decided to do it because they didn't read the comics first.
They also said that Josh Schwartz is pushing hard to use cast members from his show Gossip Girl.
A poll on SHH overwhelmingly showed nobody would watch it (as far as fans go) under the current plan.
They REALLY didn't read the comics first?
What kind of moron makes a movie without researching the source material?
After the first try with Singer (who admitted never having read the X-Men before getting hired and really didn't check out enough issues afterwards in my opinion) where we were missing essential characters, got some lame experimental machine to make everyone mutants, a Rogue with none of her powers who falls for Iceman, and everyone wore the same leather fettish uniform, did you expect anything different?? I mean look no further than Wolverine which takes place 15 years prior to the first X-Men film, yet Gambit is 30?? Why would Fox change course now and finally do something right??
Marvel...PLEASE take back our heroes and make this the right way!! A nation of sheep will beget a government of wolves." - Edward R. Murrow

Fox has reserved the right to make X-Men 4 in the future, i think there plan was at some point to make a second sequel - X-Men 4 - 6
X-Men First Class - in the comics was about the original five, Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Beast, Angel. But in the eyes of Fox they want to explore the stories of Rogue, Iceman, Colossus, Angel and probably Pyro from the Movie Canon. There considering First Class to be a spin off and not a direct sequel.
So in my opinion - what you should do is just re-name this forum X-Men Sequels... That way we can talk about both as seperate entities. And if they do make one of them into a movie then you can open a new forum in regards to it.
I think you are right. They want to explore the younger characters of the movie version. Meaning Rogue, Iceman, Colossus, Kitty and Jubilee. Not the comic version of First Class. They are going to probably re-cast as the actors are going to be too old to be considered youngsters. |

One of the problems with this whole franchise is that there's far too much material, which makes it difficult to pick any one story line and satisfy all the fans.
If they were going to do more of these films; skip going back to the beginning, and instead pick some characters, and collaborate with some of the best strip writers, and come up with an entirely new story, for movie purposes. Yes, some of it might revisit certain scenarios, but something NEW including a few key characters could certianly please more people than a script that's hacked together.
Just my opinion.

I like what Guillermo del Toro's done with Hellboy. He collaborated with the writer of the series, and churned out new stories strictly for the films while staying true to the characters. |

Exactly. In fact, the entire pre-history can be done in some kind of prologue, like they did with watchmen, but open it up to an all new adventure. Singer even tried this (and failed) with Superman. But it's far more creative, and something new is usually more interesting, provided that its done well. "All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us." |

What is annoying is that they are mixing ultimate story lines with original Marvel stories. Some ideas work for the better of course, I like the fact Spiderman has natural webs. But I miss the fact he is not doing his nerdy experiments and comming up with ways to defeat his enemies, spends too much with Mary Jane on screen.
They should do two versions of Marvel, one the normal fundimental stories and the more experiemental directors should do the ultimate universe. Far as I am concerned all Marvel movies so far have been about the ultimate universe and like most people now have had enough of that and want a reeboot it because they want the original stories that were actually historical to the characters not some made up movie trying to redesign everything.
The only snag is that previous writers of orginal stories is that they possibly want some money out if they copy the original comics, but why are they not honoured by that anyway?. But because everyone is so greedy I bet in Holywood they don't want to share the money out and instead of making a possible 6 movies per marvel character they get stuck at 3 and mess the whole universe up.
So my idea is to speak to the original writers, get them to talk about using orginal ideas without the going to court over stupid things, clear the air, it may even be free anyway since Marvel owns the right to the comics. Then just like the comics in their chronology order follow by example, keep everyone happy.
Remember Gwen Stacy came first, not Mary Jane, kill her off like the comics, make the Spiderman story more emotional even if it takes nearly 3 hours then do the second with Doc Ock, Parker then meets Mary Jane, third movie the lizard or sandman or both.
4th movie Venom and then Carnage and so on.
X-men 1-3 origins-younger unknown actors, CGI Jugganaut if need be slowly introduce Apocalpse and Dark Pheonix. 4th Movie alternative universe with sentinals, have the X-Men killed off Terminator apocalypse scenary storyline
and 5th movie go back to present time and have mr sinister in it trying to create that universe but they stop him or something. It's endless so why not. Why waist the chracters on ageing actors and stories that can not continue and famous actors who want to leave?
Come on MARVEL, IT'S IN YOUR COMICS STICK TO IT.
