Okay, what I am about to say is as shocking to me as it will be to you, but Water Horse was the best film I saw all year.

I should probably say that my wife is from Scotland and I visited there several times. I walked the same shores that are in the film and drank at the same pubs. So I may be biased.

But this film was amazing. It touched me in the same way that E.T. touched me when I was a kid.

The film is about the legend of the Loch Ness Monster (Nessy to the locals). During WWII, a little boy whose father went off to war finds an egg. The egg hatches and he finds a small creature which he names Cossie. He begins raising the creature in secret when an army platoon sets up camp at his cottage near Loch Ness. He is also counting down the days on a callander till his father's tour of duty is over.
A strang man comes to the cottage looking for work as a handiman. He has a mysterious past and develops a relationship with the boy.

The mother is cold and detatched. We learn that the boy's father died a year ago in the war and the mother hasn't been able to bring herselt to tell her son.

The army things the creature in the loch is a Nazi submarine and are after it. The local reporter wants to capture it on film (the famous black and white photo) to use tourism to revive a town that is dying because all of their young men are being killed in the war. And the boy is searching for his father and his place in a world he doesn't understand.

All in all, this is a great film. My kids loved it and I was mesmerized. Now again, I am biased, so take that into account. But I loved it.

Hey, I appreciate quality films that don't involve robots, nijas, or monsters. The Untouchables is one of my favorite films of all time. I was looking forward to American Gangster more than any other film with the exception of SM3 (the trailers were awesome, too bad the movie wasn't as good). So, whatever. . .

I started to officially boycott PG films about a year ago. All other ratings are ok, even G, because G movies are generally for kids. PG movies are crap that tries to be a film for little kids and other people at the same time resulting in absolute crap. However, PG movies from the time when PG-13 didn't exist are ok, like James Bond movie and Star Wars.

The lesson, PG movies are crap and shouldn't be made ever again. . .

Well, as a parent, I am glad you are wrong. It's nice to have films slightly more intense than a G film while not containing the mild profanity of a PG-13 film. But as I said, I'm just not as cool as you guys.

I've never even seen 'The Water Horse', so I really can't say anything good or bad, but only hope you're right.

You guys can't really judge his opinion unless you've actually seen the film itself, not just the trailer... Get that through your head first. That's like judging a book by its cover.
