Lord Sesuken said: Chrisferfb36 said: This is an opinion from a pretty savvy F4 fan. This movie looks terrible to me for a few reasons.
First off, the running time is 1:32 min. That's terrible. Name couple really good movies that run that length that aren't horrors or comedies. Especially for a comic book adaptation, this is brutal. In retrospect, Spiderman 3 is obviously a disappointment but when I heard it it 2 and a half hours long I was pumped as were probably every other fan. 1:32 is hardly enought time to get past the reintroductions of the characters as well as the Silver surfer scenes, then we have to get past the stupid comedy that I'm sure will outlast it's stay.
Second, the story is predictable: The silver surfer will come and the F4 will think he's evil and Doom will join to pretend to fight the surfer and gain his powers. then the surfer will join the F4 in fighting Doom all the while we'll get a breif glimpse of Galactus in massive storm mode. This will be in the climax as the surfer gets his powers back from a united force against Doom. The surfer will engage in some awe-inspiring special effect frenzy to lure Galactus away.
Lastly, the introduction of the surfer along with Galactus and the reemergence of Doom will make for too many characters; as we saw didn't work in Spiderman 3. Someone, like most of the F4 especially Reed will bite the bullet and only be featured on a limited basis.
All together I have extremely low expectations for this movie. The actors aren't great to start with, the effects not top notch and the story quite far-fetched already. I'll get back and give it a rating after seeing it this weekend.
It got a good review so far.
Where?? I've read 9 reviews now and none of them said anything good accept that fans who enjoyed the first would like this one. That's a good review to you?? The first movie was horrible. And I've seen this one and those reviews are right. It won't gain any new fans, will disappoint most people over the age of 13, and was just a poor film if the idea is to make the studio money. Alright, I went to see it yesterday. Now, my review is a little mixed because I enjoyed the movie only because i set my expectations of it to really low. Overall, It was entertaining. but that's it.
Storywise, I was right about every point. I could've written it so whoever the write is, I never want to see him write another movie. Of course, it was a special effects extravaganza, with the Human torch and the silver surfer flying around all the time. Alot went into Galactus as well, though
He turned out to be a bitch and was destroyed so easily by the surfer
but he didn't really possess much of a threat.
I have a HUGE problem with Doom. He was completely unnecessary to the story. In the end he was just an annoyance to the 4 and really there wasn't any threat on his part. And I have a question for Tim Story
where the hell did Doom go. Clearly he didn't die by just being thrown into the ocean, but we never saw him again and there was nothing after the credits. So......what's the deal?
It was very short and felt like an episode of a TV drama about the 4 rather than a feature film.
The comedy was all there just like the first and made the movie, along with the special effects, worth watching. A couple useless plot points were made a much bigger deal than they were and the movie seemed to center around Johnney more than anyone.
My biggest beef was there was basically no fighting at all, the final battle and climax consisted of about 3 punchs and alot of terrible attempts at making people cry. Also, the F4 ship, I'm not sure what it's called was built up the whole movie and then they flew it for about 2 minutes not really doing anything special.
So, in the end, if you feel like just sitting back and having a good time then this movie is for you. No doubt it's entertaining. But for the fanboys and hardcore F4 fans, that's all it is; entertaining. Don't expect much else. All I can say is if there is a 3rd, which I'm sure there will be as they hinted at it, I have some advice for the studio: New director, new writer and new vision. I'm Bringin Sexy Back!
Michael Bay is amazing. |
