Spider-Man 4s Lone Villain is The Lizard?
Posted by Neil Miller (neil@filmschoolrejects.c om) on October 27, 2009
It is safe to assume that the plot details and casting for Sonys upcoming comic adventure Spider-Man 4 will not be kept secret for too much longer, as the films principal shoot is right around the corner. But were remaining skeptical as the rumor-mill keeps churning. Today, the fine folks at MarketSaw claim that theyve got the scoop on Spideys upcoming foes, er, foe.
Per their report, a production insider has confirmed that the fourth film in the Spider-Man franchise will only have one villain, and that it will be The Lizard. Last week, UGO reported that actor Dylan Baker, who previously played Dr. Curt Connors (who notoriously becomes The Lizard), has gotten a call from Sam Raimi about the project. So logic points to this rumor possibly being true. For now, were remaining skeptical until we get something official from the folks at Sony. That said, the prospect of a lean, focused Spider-Man film with a single villain is enticing.

And 1 & 2 were the best, so that would be just fine for me!
So you really just want a carbon copy of 1 and 2? Then again that's all Sam Raimi can do anyway as much as I like him. I mean Evil Dead 2 is pretty much a carbon copy of Evil Dead 1
How you get that i don't know, 1 & 2 had different villains and different stories how you can consider them as carbon copies is beyond me and who cares about Evil Dead 1 & 2 there were both great either way. And did you not see Drag me to hell? I suppose that a carbon copy as well? Overloading spiderman with villains is going to do the same thing it did to 3, it will screw it up and probably make 3 look even better.
I'm not saying Drag Me To Hell was cause that wasn't. I'm not saying there should be 3 villains or even 2, just the Lizard by himself is not enough after what 1, 2, and 3 did. Mary Jane will get kidnapped again and it's another scientist gone bad.
Yeah but from everything that i have heard thus far this will tie into the venom spin off which will tie into spiderman 5 and 6 so highly doubt out of all this the lizzard is all we will get in 4 im sure there going to have a side villain, we shall see.
Exactly, all those rewrites and their conclusion is just the Lizard? Naw, I'm not buying it. |

Yeah it seems that way, but how credible is MarketSaw.com? I hope they're is at least a minor villain. |

To whoever it was towards the beginning of the thread that made the comment about Evil Dead 1 and 2 being almost the same movie: they're supposed to be. 1 is what Raimi made on a basically non-existant budget with a couple friends, and 2 is essentially the same thing with actual money to put into it and a studio behind it. I've never heard anything, within the movies or from people involved with them, that suggests they come one after the other.
As far as Lizard being the only villain: Like everyone else, I've been waiting to see them do something with him since 1, and I'm sure they can make him look great. I don't know that he can carry a movie by himself, though, and would really like to see them team him with Kraven. You know, a villain combo that actually makes (or can make) some kind of sense.
Gerard Butler for Kraven, by the way. "I worry about my judgement whenever anything I believe in or do regularly begins to be accepted by the American public." - George Carlin
"Rrush'hok ichnar vinim'hok" - "Die well, brave warrior"
"I never take anything on faith or at face value." - Wolverine
