"Parker started as a little bit of a selfish, naive and insecure high school kid," the director said. "He learned some lessons from his uncle and a little bit about the meaning of responsibility.

"In the second picture, he wrestled with his personal fulfillment versus that responsibility and, in the third film, I think it was a little bit about his growing hubris, his pride swallowed up and the darkness that came out of that and the grief that it caused for his best friend and his girlfriend and himself."

For Spider-Man 4,' Raimi and Maguire envision Parker stepping into a newfound maturity whilst also learning to balance his personal life with his time as Spider-Man. "I think it's about putting his head down and moving forward with the knowledge that he has this responsibility," Raimi explained.

"And it's about the growth of that understanding, that it encompasses more than just his sense of duty toward others but he also has a sense of responsibility as a human being toward the ones he loves."

Doesn't that just scream the villain, or one of them anyway, being the Lizard? The next part of the interview that MTV had with Sam Raimi will be up days after this in which Sam Raimi reveals which villains might be in Spider-Man 4. Obviously he won't say exactly which villains are in it but hopefully he'll say how many at least are in it.

I wouldn't say it's not anything new. Basically Peter will balance his life as Spider-Man and his personal life and never put himself before anything or anybody ever again. So really this means no more lessons really for Peter to learn. He's finally matured for good. That's the way I interpret it anyway.

So that means the conflict in the story will have to come from the villains and/or another source. A conflicted hero is usually more interesting than one that isn't, but this is Spiderman: There will always be hard choices for Parker.

Exactly, you know in David Abaire's first draft Aunt May was sick and Peter had to find a cure for her.

Ok, so Peter won't have anymore internal demons to face so the threat will more than likely be external.... So *insert villian here* will kidnap MJ causing Peter to have to face said villian.... sounds vaguely familiar

I find your lack of faith disturbing.

This is a good thing. I think it means no more whining.

I really would like to see that part in the film. It seem like David got the idea there from one of the best Spider-Man's story call "If this be my destiny..." from Amazing Spider-Man (Vol. 1) #33. The ending to that story really show Spidey's will to never give up, even when the odds seem against him.

That would be awesome and would make since for what Sam Raimi plans on doing with Peter Parker having a responsibility towards ones he loves and cares for.

This would be a great scene to filmed for part 4 if they went with the story of May being sick & Spidey trying to find a cure for her. He was hurt pretty bad & seem to struggle with trying to lift the heavy rubbles off of him along with starting to get dizzy from pushing his body to the limit, but never giving up with thinking of trying to save Aunt May.

Who cares about his sense of responsibility as an issue?

Where's the sense of humor? The wacky one liners?

Seriously.

Spider-Man = UNDERDOG

We get it, nothing new there.

Don't stray from it but still give us something new.

How about the one aspect of his personality that HASN'T been paid full attention to?

Sarcasm?
