Venom Movie is Moving Forward

The film's screenwriter says that the studio has the script and is "pushing forward" with the movie.
"We've written two drafts of Venom, and the studio has it, and they're pushing forward in whatever ways they push forward," said Venom co-writer Paul Wernick in an interview with SciFi Wire.

Alongside Rhett Reese, Wernick co-wrote both "Venom" and the upcoming Zombieland.

When asked if Spider-Man would play a part in the spin-off, the writer remained mysteriously tight-lipped, "We can't really talk about that, unfortunately," Wernick said. "Basically, the studio and Marvel and the Arads are taking our drafts and going beyond and figuring out what's the next step."

In sony and marvel's case, ALOT OF MONEY. Being that alot of venom fans were dissapointed with the character in the third film and being that venom is equal to dc's joker character, it would make alot of money in theatres since there is a huge fan base for the character of venom. If you think that people lined up like crazy to see spider-man for the third film, then I am the mascot for oscar meyer wieners...

Ok got ahead of myself. Since it is a spinoff that ideas out. Maybe it will be the symbiote acting alone, jumping from host to host like in the Venom: Shivers storyline or god forbid about Mac Gargan. Or they might even try to turn it into a prequal. Would't put anything past Fox.

Joker's equal? thats a load.

There may be a good large fanbase for venom, but it's only about sixty percent of Spider-Man. As for the rest of us, someone would have to pay me to see a Venom film.

Why am I posting? not to really bash anyone. I just think that Wernick and Reese make a good writing team and I'm kind of looking forward to Zombieland...looks funny.

This spin-off movie is gonna suck. A Venom movie is a really bad idea. I have the feeling all the X-men spin-offs like Magneto and Wolverine 2 are gonna suck also. The first Wolverine sucked.

Yeah, he's got a point though. When did they stop making solid spin-off films? I felt that 'wolverine' was really just a cash grab after the x-men franchise was so financial successful. Although Hugh Jackman would beg to differ....

I never cared for Wolverine as a character, but the movie was better than X-men three, so I hope that the sequel will be the 'wraith of kahn' of the series.

Magneto will probably fall through, but if it does go through they should just call it x-men origins and do in depth look at both Xavier and Magneto starting up their 'views'.

As far as marvel comics is concerned venom is indeed equal to the joker in the dc universe as far as a fan favorite villian. The joker without a doubt is a more popular villian in general but thats what i meant.

I love it when everyone says that a sequel will have a wrath of kahn feel to it when it wasnt that great. The third one was way better then the sequel. If anything I can understand if it was the terminator 2 or empire strikes back feel.

Wolverine did have cool fight scenes I give you that but the story just sucked though. Actually I liked X3 better. I even liked it better than the first 2 movies. The first 2 weren't all that exciting but I did like them. However the franchise was screwed from the start. Honestly I feel that Bryan Singer isn't really suited for directing comic book films at all. He made the first 2 X-Men movies okay and he screwed up Superman Returns. They all 3 dragged a little in my opinion. Yeah SR might have dragged more though. They should have done much better. Even the guy that done X3 isn't suited either.

Spinoffs are written to capitalize --quickly -- on the popularity of some genre/character mythology, and because they can be produced more cheaply than a 'from scratch' effort.

It's never going to be exactly what anyone wants, and you'll just have to settle for whatever they produce.

Just doesn't have the makings of a successful story going forward. Unless they plan to make multiverse out of Spiderman.

I got this from a dude called J.A.Ottley/Writer/Directo
r from MovieWeb in the comment section of the Venom script being done.

September 26th, 2009 4:27pm
Actually to correct some people...

Venom was only written poorly because he was never meant to be in the screenplay, if you read the treatment, it only featured the symbiote but due to crying fan boys and Sam Raimi wanting to please the fans and obviously producers being dicks, they introduced Venom in the last draftor 2nd to the last draft, hence why he was so poorly written and has such a minimum screentime.

The original idea was
Spider man 3 - Sandman & New Goblin & Symbiote

Spider man 4 - Lizard, Venom and possibly Kraven.

But i agree Venom has to be R-rated, have a proper strong story, need a proper actor what the **** were they thinking with Topher, there was only one line where he sounded like Venom, which was where he teamed up with Sandman he said one line and it was 'INTERESTED!' that was the only believeable venom part in the film.

I agree with Agent, Twisted Smile, CBF and that R-rating, and learning more about the character

Venom was popular way before Spider-Man 3. Hell Venom was the main reason Spider-Man 3 had a lot of hype in the first place.

Its disappointing for me because with Venom being in the film, I wanted it to do poorly and look what happened. Still, I'm unsatisfied with the overall presentation of the film.

I really doubt it was added last minute to #3. It just wasn't done well. A script for Venom sounds like wishful thinking to me. Since when does anyone listen to 'crying fanboys'?

in all honesty its not hard to screw up a Superman movie....... its HARD to make a good one, if you dont use characters the general public has a clue about, they will not be interested in the movie, so Supes is stuck fighting Lex Luthor or whatever lame brained villian they can come up with with the hope people will see it becauses its a Superman movie

TOPHER GRACE SHOULD HAVE NEVER PLAYED VENOM!!!! since when is Eddie Brock a lil puke punk kid???? and when the hell did he ever date Gwen???? WHY SAM WHY????!!!????

as for rated r, yes it should but but look at the fact, people make movies for the public to make money, if you only aim at a 18+ audience not a whole lotta people are going to come.... case in point Punisher: War Zone..... now you tone it down a bit to a PG-13 rating you make more money by getting more butts in the seats.... fan boys may hate it but guess what??? they will still see the movie in some way shape or form

Now J.A.Ottley/Writer/Directo
r from MovieWeb said this:

September 28th, 2009 4:42pm
The Vulture was a character that Sam Raimi through in interested and the though of proposal for Spiderman 4 because it was his favourite villain, Vulture has never been proposed for any of the Spiderman films, the rumour only struck up because Sam stated that Vulture was his fav spidey villain, and people though it was a hint.

If you read the original proposal for Spiderman 3 it states and visually tells the story in depth and only features Green Goblin dubbed New Goblin, Sandman and of course the Symbiote, the story was orignally be the style of the average Anti-Hero/revenge story, but the addition of bringing Venom for the fanboys slightly well dramatically changed the course of the story.

If the Symbiote featured in Spider-man 3 but never turned into Venom or became Venom it only seems logic that the Symbiote would become Venom in the next installment to the franchise.
Also Sam Stated a while back ago that he wanted Dylan Baker's character needed to evolve and become more of a main character to the story of Spiderman and he felt that it was time for the Lizard to get his big screen treatment, and well its logic to bring to only bring in Kraven alongside Lizard.
As for Spidey will have a struggle to take down Lizard once he learns his true identity, so therefore this brings in the purpose to bring in Kraven's character.

If you can find the original SM3 treatment, well its all in there

Ultimate Ironman was the second to last series of comics I read from Marvel and quite obviously it wasn't very good. I'd take the mainstream look based on design but I can see where the Ultimate armour could be quite a bit more reliable.

I agree with Agent, Twisted Smile, CBF and that R-rating, and learning more about the character

thats a bunch of bull, the original idea just had ben kingsley as the vulture and sandman and new goblin. The symbiote storyline came out when avi arad convinced sam to use venom because thats what the fans want.

Popularity of a character that kinda sucked in Spider-man 3 .

Venom was popular way before Spider-Man 3. Hell Venom was the main reason Spider-Man 3 had a lot of hype in the first place.

very true and its the same reason as to why everyone lined up for the dark knight is to see the joker.
