If you're not familiar with Tony Kushner, the award-winning playwright and screenwriter, here's a few bits on his work on the Steven Spielberg movie on Abraham Lincoln.

I've seen his work first hand, and heard him speak about his theatrical productions. He's quite brilliant, and his script for Munich was effective. He does indeed like to shock our sensibilities.

I guess it will be about as accurate as it can get. It's based on historian Doris Kearns Goodwin's book, Team of Rivals. I've read it, and it does take a 360-degree view of Lincoln, and the key figures in his administration.

The hardest thing to capture will be what a complex individual he seems to have been. If you read his earlier writings, and the lincoln Douglas debates, the later Lincoln (Civial War Lincoln, as in this film) will have changed a lot in his own opinions.

I think they know that this is a man and an era that has been endlessly discussed, it's part of the fabric of the US culture in a sense. It will have to be a high standard. I trust Spielberg and his team to aim high.
