So Aliens Vs. Predator : Requiem didn't exactly set the box office on fire like most assumed it would; seems 'word of mouth' might've played a part in that but that doesn't mean the prospects of seeing another tag-team between slimey and the ugly-mo-fo isn't still a strong possibility.

A few hours ago, one half of the film's directing team, Colin Strause, posted the following in the IMDB forums :

We did over 15 million internationally (and it hasn't even opened everywhere yet), which means in just a few days we've already made more than our total budget was. I admit I wish it did better in the US, but these numbers are nothing to feel bad about.

The flick, which Strause co-directed alongside brother Greg, grossed an estimated $10 million from 2,611 runs for a cume of $26.9 million in the sequel's first six days. Here in Australia, the film was squished by, of all films, The Golden Compass - which has underperformed in every country but Oz and Britain. It made almost $500,000 more than Alien vs Predator: Requiem'', which made $1,113,225 on Boxing Day. What has essentially happened over the world is that the film started off strong but numbers dropped significantly as the week progressed.

So will we see another Aliens Vs. Predator film? It's, of course, too early to say... but I think it's pretty safe to say we'll at least see the characters return in some form or another hopefully in stand-alone Alien and Predator movies. (Should a third AvP movie be greenlight, the Strause boys have already informed the studio they'd like to set it in 'Space').

Here's what I think.

Yes, it's alive. There will be AVP3. It will be made maybe wround 2010 or 2011. It will be set in space. And we will love it.

Releasing a movie on Christmas day was probably the stupidest move this movie has made. Its a christmas holiday, pretty much filled with cheer and last-minute shopping, and then a rated R movie comes out. Well thats a no-brainer that the movie would fail, which it basically did with those numbers. (Juno beat it? WTF lol). Oh and being too dark didnt help it. Maybe on DVD they would lighten up the picture so hat we could actually see what going on.

Im pretty sure this movie will have a part 3, but im hopiing that the studio execs get there ***es moving and make seperate movies already.

Rest assured, this franchise isn't dead. It may rest awhile, but it'll be back. I just hope it doesn't go to the birds like "Resurrection" did.

"I seek faith in the unfaithful just as you seek peace and atonement in a war-torn world."

"The common wit is not fair to middling."

"Laugh at me all you want, one day you'll all be kissing my feet."

"Young age is no excuse for poor taste."

"To be a prep is to be blissfully unaware of one's own mediocrity."

Uhh i think it was either $10 million, or $40 million. Lot cheaper then AVP 1. I think fox didn't have any faith in this film. I hate fox, but I love the alien, predator movies.

It's already over 30 million in the US, and will probably settle at around 45 to 50 million by the end of it's run. As long as it does the same business overseas there will be more. If the budget was 40 million that means it has to clear 80 before it can start turning a profit. I don't think the budget was 40 million though.

Figure 20 million is a safe bet. That means that it has already doubled it's budget with WW grosses. Now, any more money it makes will be profit.

And, as it says in the article, the biggest overseas debuts haven't happened yet.

Plus, these kinds of movies are always big on DVD. So, even if it comes up short of expectations on teh big screen, the DVD numbers could save the franchise.
