Apparently, the idea for this movie came from a story that Rodriguez's son made up when he was 6 or 7. So you can laugh, but that shows good imagination.

Obviously the kid had help to develop the story from Dad, but I still think that's very cool

Sure, the kid had a good imagination, what 7 year old doesn't? 20 years down the line, when the kid's imagination phased out, the movie's long forgotten, he will be saying to his dad "WHAT WERE YOU THINKING!?!"
