In a nutshell, Saw actor Cary Elwes, who plays the film's hobbled Dr. Gordon, wants more dough for his role. That's according to the Los Angeles Times who says Elwes filed lawsuit earlier this month against his management firm (who are also Saw's producers).
Breach of contract and not getting enough money is the basic gist of his complaint. No surprise considering James Wan's cheapo horror project grossed over a $100 million worldwide. Here are the specifics from the Times:
Elwes alleges that in September 2003, while the film was being cast, he was assured that he would receive "favored nations" status with all cast members. The suit maintains that Elwes has received only $53,275, in addition to a salary of $2,587.20, for his performance. The suit maintains "favored nations" meant that payments to Elwes "should have included box office bonuses equal to the highest paid actor who performed in 'Saw' " as well as a percentage of profits "equivalent to the highest paid actor" in the film.
The lawsuit goes on to implicate co-star Danny Glover and co-star/writer Leigh Whannell claiming he profited from the gross more than Glover did. Ah, legal stories. They confuse me so. But they're fun to read about...
