Australian actress Rose Byrne (Two Hands, The Night We Called it a Day, Troy) has snagged a plum role in Fox Atomics sequel to zombie hit, 28 Days Later.

The foxy brunette, 27, will join Robert Carlyle, Jeremy Renner and Harold Perrineau for the sequel, which started up today in London.

In 28 Weeks Later, The US Army declares that the war against infection has been won, and that the reconstruction of the country can begin. In the first wave of returning refugees, a family is reunited -- but one of them unwittingly carries a terrible secret. The virus is not yet dead, and this time, it is more dangerous than ever.

Byrne has had quite an eventful couple of years. Hot on the heels of her resume-building role in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, she took a tug to Hollywood where she won a role opposite Brad Pitt in Wolfgang Petersons Troy. Warner Bros were so impressed with her turn in that film, they put her forward to test for Superman Returns.

She didnt get the role of the feisty reporter Lois Lane, but when word got out that she was indeed in the mix for such a coveted role, the doorbell started to ring. She recently starred with Dylan McDermott in The Tenants, and will soon to be seen in one of the years most anticipated films, Marie Antoinette.
