June 19, 2005 — Galia Halpern from World of KJ has a fascinating article up "Confessions of a non-horror fan awaiting George A. Romero's Land of the Dead" delving into her introduction to the horror genre and finding salvation for horror with Romero.
Romero is at his best when he brings all his talents to the table. He is a remarkably strong storyteller with a penchant for the theatrical. His zombies and flesh feasts as of 1985 were highlights of make-up and the grotesque. Both his strengths seem to work best when developed simultaneously to agitate his viewers. I can neither afford to look away and miss drama, nor can I look towards the screen and see the chest break open as hands dig in. Constantly strapped to my seat in limbo, Romero has given me a glimmer of hope that horror can actually be about something other than its own self-congratulation.
