On one of the TV spots, it looks like a Zombie uses a machine gun.
I know we've had Bub using a gun in Day, but I'm not sure about this element, I thought Bub was ok, as a one of.
Romero has done 3 Zombie films already, and probably wants to develop what he's done before and try something different. It's jus personally I don't like Zombies using weapons, I like my Zombies dumb and slow.
What's your view?

Dawn of the Dead: Tools and shopping!

Day of the Dead: Guns.

Land of the Dead: Guns and Shopping?...

I don't find them Creepy with guns, and they don't need guns, Zombies are not meant to use guns, they are just meant to feed, not shoot, just eat.

Romero had to take the franchise one step further, in day of the dead, Bub began to gain intelligence and remembered how to use a gun. Then, in the Dawn of the Dead remake, the zombies had to ability to run, but I dont think they will be running in this movie.

I really dont like the idea of zombies using guns, but thats not going to stop me from seeing this movie

I've just seen the movie and i can say that the use of guns by zombies is limited. When it is used its well inside the parameters of zombie behaviour. In the movie the use of the gun is only after it goes off acidentaly while in the zombies hand. Check out Bub from 'Day of the Dead' for behaviour with guns. This director can be credited with inventing this genre in the same way that John Ford is credited with dominion over the Western genre.
So in the end the Zonbie's will act according to Romero's imagination. And what an imagination it is. The movies excellent, not perfect, about 87% there (personaly I would like to have seen it go a bit longer and a be bit darker in its portrayal of the fortified city.' Tons of gore though so not to worry. And not to worry about substance. He shows his usual flair for creating colorful and full characters. There are lots of realy great moments that stick with you later. I would love to tell you but then that would ruin the fun. Enjoy, classic Romero!

Romero is the Father of zombies, he made 'em big. He can do what he wants with them, and although people disagree , it's not "Wrong". They can use them but how many times are they used effectively in the movie? Maybe twice....it's learned behavior.

I personally beleive that you can't say "zombies don't do that" because they are Romero's creation and they are whatever he wants them to be.

sorry, I didn't mean that personally against you or anything. The only reason I quoted you was for my lame "guns and swimming" thing, not for the "real zombies" thing. I know what you mean though, and I totally agree. you sometimes just want entertainment rather than a mental exerscise.

well let's see... its cleshe that zombies are slow and dumb, i think its good that they use guns and they start to think. cuase I mean think about it.. movies are based off reality and possiblity.. it may not happen now but the dead could come back. as for the guns thing.. i say let em, they might become great hunters... great snipers. its one thing to doge zombies and toy with them. but would you **** with a zombie with a shotgun.... I DONT THINK SO. Imagaine a dead Charlton Hestor say in a NRA Ad.. "THEY HAVE TO TAKE THIS GUN FROM COLD DEAD HANDS"... he didnt say that for nothing

LOL, Like I said, I'm not a fan of Zombies using guns, but a zombie Charlton Heston lookalike walking around with a gun. now that would be some funny S***!

It's up to Romero to decide about guns, but we have loads of italian B-movs in which zombies use it, but none if them is scary in a way and none of them has an atmospherical impact.
No guns preferrably - carnivore instinct is the main moving factor and it has nothing to do with basic gun mechanics.
Even Bub, I think, won't notice a gun at all if Frank didn't give it to him.

The legend is, Zombies were slaves controlled by Witchdoctors, but they could do basic things like use tools to dig mines or whatever the witchdoctor wanted them to do. Props to Romero he added some social commentry, sayin we can all be slaves or zombies.

I suppose it's different stuff Those zombies u're talking about (Voodoo) were not dead, they were in constant trance. It is not legend, it is real fact. Withchdoctors were using them as slaves, it's true. But Romero's symbolism of zombies is consumption (which is probably already "instinctive" for us), mass behaviour (slow mass motion), will to consume (biting and eating).
