May 26, 2007 — Variety reports that "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" boosted its worldwide take to $142.5 million, according to Disney's Friday estimates.
Playing in 102 international territories, "At World's End" added $44.4 million on Friday for a cume of $85.5 million abroad, a record for the studio.
Domestically, the pic raked in $57 million, which included its limited Thursday night runs.
Pic is playing in 4,362 locations, the widest release of all time.
Last year, "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" hit $55.8 million on its first Friday.
According to Friday estimates, trailing behind "Pirates" at the domestic box office was "Shrek the Third." Sources say the DreamWork's toon crowned another $14 million on Friday to bring its cume over $165 million in two frames.
"Spider-Man 3" was hanging in at the third spot. Sony's webslinger set the foreign opening record three weeks ago with $176.6 million during its launch weekend. Thanks to early openings, Spidey took in $231 million overseas by the end of its first weekend. |
