Now we already have confirmed that a Spider-man and Shrek 4 are in the pipeline. However, with the profit figures facing disney on the pirates franchise, assumably excluding DVD sales, I find it hard to believe they won't press on with a fourth movie. Now I totally believe in leaving something while it's on a high, but it's money that does the talking with studio's. I guess with a new, well written story it could work.

No. People are smarter than this. The public expected a trilogy from the beginning, and now they know that if a 4th film happens that it's simply about money, and it will lack everything that made the POTC trilogy so great and most will not be interested.

Although I agree with you, when I first heard There was going to be a Shrek 2, I was expecting that to be a trilogy, now we have a 4th and 5th film in the works, as well as a christmas tv special.
