Just caught an advance screening of Darren Aronofsky's The Fountain in Boston, where the director was in attendance for a Q & A afterwards (I actually met briefly with him after the session, he's a real cool guy).
As for the film itself, I loved it. (Some spoilers ahead) It is visually captivating and the acting is superb. The complexity of its emotionally-driven story is amazing. As you may have read, it takes place as a modern day tale, focusing mainly on Tommy (Jackman) and his wife, Izzi (Weisz). Interwoven are the parallel tales of the couple which Izzi has written in a book called The Fountain. Each parallel is in a different time period: one in the future, the other in the past. From there it's basically a tale of their love, and brings up the question, "Can love last forever?" or something like that haha. I'll stop there as far as the plot goes 'cause I'm still taking it all in..
But overall, it's a great film. Apparently, they used no cgi, only photographed images modified with computers. I didn't know this going in, so afterwards I was that much more impressed. I wished Aronofsky the best of luck on its release, it will no doubt do well (or at least it deserves to)..
